❛ we can’t stay here anymore. ❜ it’s spoken almost bitterly, fingers tucked behind plastic blinds over the window, peeking out into the parking lot before them. finding a small country store that actually had food was a blessing. but he can’t get the thought of that small group of men following them. they managed to evade them well enough, but he wants to put more distance between them. not only does he have zee, he has a small boy strapped to his chest. before all of this, he was somewhat absent in the boy’s life ; drugs took everything out of him, he often didn’t even realize he had missed days or weeks of his son’s life. the apocalypse has given him the opportunity to be a father.
hazel eyes follow a short path, finding her figure where she sits on the floor in the corner. they haven’t known each other for too long, but he trusts her. and that’s not something easily said or given by him. ❛ hey, ❜ he’s more firm in his tone, wanting to gather her attention ; his head falls to look at the child who’s passed out on his chest, cheek squished, drool soaking into the fabric of his father’s shirt. he smooths a hand over his head, running down his back, beginning to walk towards her. ❛ you in your own world again? ❜
