They were kidding around or atleast that’s what it felt like things got ..out of hand. “ oh there’s some froth on your mouth let me clean that up for you” Jay smirked and Caleb’s lips split into the widest smile as he picked a kleenex too “ and you’re such a dirty eater Jay, cake frosting all over”
“you gonna help me with that” Jay almost challenged and he saw Caleb’s expressions change. As if that wasn’t a warning enough to stop, Jayce pushes it and leans in dangerously close, is breathing laboured, goosebumps all over when their noses knock together, the subtle pain is followed by a ton of surprise when caleb surged forth to cut what little distance was between them to kiss him and Jayce surprised himself by responding and kissing back. It’s one smooch and Jayce pulls away with widened eyes and a jaw hanging open. Caleb was grinning in pure triumph and held up the cake ‘ More, or you had enough?”
Jayce wasn’t sure what Caleb was referring to anymore.

”you really shouldn’t have” Caleb had protected softly and Jayce smiled, it’s a bit shy and a bit affectionate, his blush accentuated by the flickering candle lights around them. Jayce had prepared a little surprise. With their hectic routines of running about trying to balance ‘family’ life with ‘work’ and ‘not so legal work’, Jayce had felt as if instead of growing closer, they were getting pulled apart. And what better way to change that than a roof-top, candle-lit, music-filled dinner?
“I absolutely should have and I did and I’m glad I did” Jayce beamed back a smile and just when Caleb seemed to be gearing up for a kiss jayce had to go and hold up a hand ‘ forgot this” he held up a bouquet or red roses, triumphantly grinning at how Caleb’s face seemed to catch a whole other layer of color “Stop, I’m blushing” the warlock giggled. Infectious and adorable, Jayce started laughing too. The werecat reached up to cup Caleb’s cheek “ I love you” he whispered and didn’t wait to let caleb say it back, the warlock looked too damn beautiful in the golden glow of the flames. So he kissed him with all his heart. Not rushed at all he held caleb as if the warlock was his treasure. In that moment everything else in the world could wait. Caleb’s favourite song was playing in the background and the kiss continued to deepen till dinner was forgotten for quite a while but Jayce didn’t mind. He didn’t mind at all.

Jayce was running, the minute he had walked into the HQ he had sniffed up trouble. Caleb had gone on a solo mission and should have returned about an hour ago but instead no one knew where he was. It was as if he had..vanished. So Jayce demanded the location where Caleb had been sent out to and then ran out of there like a madman, hot tears brim over and he furiously wipes them away. “Caleb, stupid warlock. The fuck. why the fuck” he muttered to himself, tears spill, leaving scorching lines down his cheeks. He turns a corner sharply and arrived at the building Caleb was sent at. Just when he was about to head in he heard his name being called by a familiar voice. His head whipped, eyes zeroing onto the love of his life standing across the street outside a Chocolatier's shop.
“you fucker” jayce breathed out and darted across the street. There was no real traffic and not enough pedestrians for Jayce to care about. he pretty much shoved caleb back against the wall with the momentum of his charge, grabbed the warlock by the lapels and kiss him hard, whimpering against his mouth as his lips moved in an anxious and passionate dance. He didn’t care to catch his breath and deepened the kiss, pressing himself flush against his boyfriend to truly feel the boy up and realize that this was the reality. Caleb wasn't gone or dead, he was very much here and alive. Jayce didn’t take long to get them portaled home and tackled caleb into bed, picking up on the heated lip-lock and one thing leads to another. Neither of them get ample sleep that night but Jayce was finally entirely at rest and content.
