Once again, Winn had gotten roped into watching Carter by Kara, but unlike the last time they weren’t going to be in the CatCo office, but Winn’s place. Sure, Cat had put the fear of God into him about making sure Carter stayed safe this time, but Winn knew with video games, pizza, and everything Carter would be fine. “So, I ordered pizza for us..” Winn said as he shoved his phone into his pocket and turned back to Carter sitting on the couch. “I hope you’ve brought your A game, because I’m ready to kick your butt.” Winn said as he moved to sit down, putting the game console in his lap. Yes, Winn was going to show his boss’s son a thing or two on the old Wii.

☏: my muse’s reaction to getting a phone call from the hospital about your muse

“What do you mean, ‘there’s been an accident?’” she asked incredulously, her brows knit together in disbelief.  “I just talked to her. An hour ago.  Maybe two.  Ok so I can’t remember when it was, but no.  No.  There can’t have been.”

She started to pace back and forth in agitation, teeth worrying at her bottom lip.  She shook her head and huffed in anger, the person on the other end of the phone still talking.  “Stop.  Just stop.  It can’t possibly be her, it can’t be! N-” Mira pinched the bridge of her nose, halting her pace only to tap her foot.  “No just stop talking.  Stop!  You’re full of shit and do not appreciate being lied to, especially about my girlfriend!”

“It’s not her.  And I’m going to prove it!” she slammed the receiver down on the counter top and frantically looked around for her cell phone, panic rising in her by the second.  Her hands were shaking when she finally found it, triggering the speed dial and attempting to ignore her hammering heart.  “Pick up.  Pick up the phone.  Come on Em, pick up.”

It wasn’t Emily.  I couldn’t be.

   Mira padded down the hallway groggily, squinting and mumbling in protest as she turned the light on.  

Whoever was knocking on their door at this hour was more than likely lost.  And unfortunately, she was the lightest sleeper in the house, so of course she’d be the only one to hear the frantic pounding.

She threw the locks back and peeked through the crack in the door, barely recognizing the figure on the top step.  “George?” she pulled the door open wider, and as her friend came more into focus her heart jumped into her throat, her body going numb.  Her friend was covered in bruises and cuts, some of them steadily oozing as he stood before her.  “George, what happened to you?!”
