nini was beaming as she watched ricky on stage. she had been so hesitant about coming here tonight, but now she was glad she had. incognito, a baseball hat pulled down to hide her face, she was sitting in the very back row, but she could hear his voice so sweet. she'd never been so proud of him.
when the show was over, she made her way backstage. it didn't take too much convincing for the security guard to let her in. she was going viral right now, with the release of her debut album, and a quick flash of a photo of she and ricky in the production of high school musical had been enough to confirm that she wasn't a crazed fan trying to get backstage.
she removes the baseball hat and shoves it into her bag, doing her best to smooth down flyaway hairs, despite her hair hanging in two braids on each side of her head. she saw the sign on the door for the green room and knocked once, softly, before cracking the door. the sound of laughter was immediate as she pushed into the room, a smile on her face. she'd recognize his laugh anywhere.
face falls when she catches sight of him, his pretty blonde co-star sitting in his lap. it takes her a second to contort her face back into an expression something other than distaste. tonight isn't about her. she's here to support ricky. that was all she'd really wanted.
❝ hey, freaky callback boy. ❞ she says, her smile forced, but the happiness in her voice genuine. it doesn't go unnoticed that she's being stared at, so she focuses her attention on ricky. it's been too long since she's seen him and, if she were being honest, it felt like coming home.
