For someone so cold, it was strange for Vexen to feel a warm, comforting feeling in his belly. Still, at the sensation of Zexion’s smaller hand wrapping around his own, he felt almost butterflies within him.

“Zexion, it has been a wile since you’ve held my hand,” Vexen spoke softly to the younger Nobody, in a tone much softer than his usual shrill voice. Lifting his hand up, he pressed his thin lips gently to the back of Zexion’s fingers in a small, unseen gesture of affection. 

“I was beginning to worry I’d felt your touch for the last time.”

“It took some digging but I was able to find the book you mentioned in Yen Sid’s library.” History Of The World, Third Edition. It was something that Riku had looked over a few times before the title had fully clicked; reading World instead of Worlds had just felt foreign and wrong.

That was the point, though. The book was old and written before the great split had scattered the World into the Worlds, fracturing the Light into pieces spreading across the sky. Ancient history but... if they wanted to know how to fight Xehanort, then learning about ancient history seemed like the best way to start.

He had also missed the title since braille wasn’t available with the old books, and he had been forced to listen to Fiona babble on as she had listed the titles off for him.

The Master forced a smile as he held the tome out for the other male. “It won’t do me any good now so. I’m sure you’ll get a lot more out of it.”

Without so much as a pause for breath, Way to Dawn was summoned in his hand, brow furrowing and creating hard lines on his forehead and beneath his eyes. ❝ How are you alive, ❞ Riku demanded, voice harsh and venomous. He’d thought he’d disappeared, or ran off somewhere to die after their fight-- how then was he here now? Wishful thinking had done nothing, and now he chastised himself for even allowing himself to believe that he’d have done away with him all that time ago.

With  a    brutal  cry    Vanitas  brought  down  his  blade  through  the    hollow  existence    of  an  Unversed,    the  blight  erupting  into  a    swarm    of  thick  smoke.    congealing  and  convulsing    in  the  air  momentarily  before  darting  forward  and  seeping  back  into  its  rightful  place,    inside  the  boy.

Slowly  straightening  himself  up  he  flicked  his  blade,    an    agitated  grunt    passing  his  lips  as  a  scar  hidden  underneath  his  suit  tore    slightly  longer.    That  was  the  last  of  them,    at  least  for  now,    but  he  could  feel  it  living,    moving,    crawling    around  just  under  his  skin.    Nothing  good  ever  came  of  Vanitas  losing  his  cool  and  hacking  away  at  his  own  manifested  emotions.    Ever.    But  goddammit  he  couldn’t  fucking  help  it.

☾  — — —  Isa watches the boy for a minute or two, brows drawn together in concern. He’s sat on one of the few armchairs scattered about the store, battered old things are sinfully comfortable, with a large tome open atop his lap. No adults were with him; the duo are the only people in the store, Ienzo reading and Isa working. Should the other not have supervision? 

❝ Are you doing okay ? ❞ he asks, hoping to sound more polite than worried. He’s never had much to do with the kid but he doesn’t get paid enough to deal with runaways.
