The characters don't have a very solid design in my mind yet, especially Ogion. He's giving Giancarlo Esposito in this.

Ogion, young Ged and the shadow!
Tales of earthsea has made me love ogion even more than i already did. i love you little boy who they call silence. i'm glad you found someone to talk to eventually.
I'm also once again devastated that he and Ged got to spend so little time together.
Reading Earthsea as a teen: I wish I had a teacher like Ogion, Ged is a nasty little fool.
Reading Earthsea as an adult and teacher: Ged is an average tween and Ogion is a fucking moron who shouldn't have been left in charge of pet rocks.
“He was savage and silent when he woke. Ogion never spoke to him, but gave him meat and water, and let him sit hunched by the fire, grim as a great, weary, sulking hawk. When night came he slept. On the third morning he came in to the fireside where the mage sat gazing at the flames, and said, ‘Master…’
‘Welcome, lad,’ said Ogion” —Ursula K. Le Guin, “A Wizard of Earthsea”
I recently read A wizard from Earthsea and I really liked it!!
I was introduced to this story more than a year ago through the film by Goro Miyazaki, Tales from Earthsea (which I know isn't a really good adaptation of the story, but I still really liked it) because, in case you didn't know, I'm a huge Studio Ghibli fan, but I hadn't been able to actually read the books until now, and wow, it was so cool!
I must say I didn't really like Ged at the begining. He knew he was intelligent and powerfull and usually made poor decisions because he thought he could do anything he wanted, but he was just really impatient and that made me a bit angry (in that sense he kinda reminded me of Kvothe from The name of the Wind ) but he was just a child acting as children do. He did get a lot of character development after facing the consequences of his own actions, and I quickly started to love him. I also got to know how he got the skar he already had as an adult in the film, I was really curious about that story. His relationship with Estarriol was really sweet, because he always believed in Ged even when he wasn't sure about his own beliefs. Oh, and my favourite character was definitely Ogion, he really cared for Ged as if he was his son, and I think that's really cute.
I think this book was great. I loved seeing Ged grow older and wiser, facing dragons, making friends and fighting his shadow. I'm really excited to read The tombs of Atuan and learn more about him and this world!
