Imagine Derek was scared the first time he used the boy’s change room. He’s been on T for a few years now and is comfortable with who he is, but that doesn’t make it any less scary.
His locker is between the wall and Stiles’ locker. Stiles is digging through his locker and seems to notice how anxious he is. He glances over his shoulder at the rest of the change room before opening his locker door right up, blocking Derek from view.
Derek realises what Stiles has done and quickly gets changed, gently pushing Stiles’ locker door shut when he’s done and smiling at him gratefully.
They don’t talk about it, but Derek is tankful beyond words.
Hello! Today is ANZAC Day (25/4) and today my country and my neighbours in New Zealand took a moment to remember our fallen soldiers. I was wondering if you could please do the same? I know it's not really a queer request but I would really appreciate just a thought for our fallen. My cousin is out fighting right now, and I love him a lot and I just want him to come home safe to his wife and our whole family. Thank you so much, bless <3 -OGNB
anything for you ognb, although idk if it’s still the 25th in new zealand, i’m bad with time zones lmao
@loveyprophet: Okay but peter buying that cardigan to show Derek that man cleavage is a thing and not to be ashamed of it (when Derek started putting on more muscle, his chest started to push out because hello pecs but he freaked out because he thought his boobs were coming back.)
OR, Derek kind of wants to wear a dress every now and then (becasue it's breezy on the bits and sometimes you just wanna be comfortable), but he feels like he doesn't want to wear 'girls clothes', so Peter takes one of Laura's cardigans and wears it as a shirt.
Imagine trans Derek cutting off all his hair and wearing a sports bra because he’s saving up for a binder. He hasn’t come out to any of his family, but one day he comes home from school to find a present on his bed. On it is a piece of card that says ‘You don’t have to be afraid to be yourself - Laura’. He’s really confused, but opens the present nonetheless and finds a binder. He’s so grateful he goes running into Laura’s room and throws his arms around her.
Imagine Derek is scared to come out to his mum. He knows she loves him, but she’s always been so proud of her three daughters. One day, he decides he’s had enough and doesn’t want to pretend to be who he’s not. So he comes out to his mum.
Talia grabs her handbag and tells Derek to get in the car. Derek’s really worried, but does as his mother says. She drives to the next town over and takes Derek shopping.
Derek kind of expects her to go combing through the girl’s clothing and make him wear a bunch of dresses, but instead she makes a b-line for the men’s section and starts pulling out some clothes for Derek to try on.
Derek feels like crying as his mum tells him how handsome and charming he looks in his new clothes.

Location: Their Apartment, The Vet & Groomers
Time Frame: Friday February 26th-Saturday February 27th
Notes: With their plan in motion to get Nora back, Grant sets up Hannah with Danielle’s help which ensues chaos. Once they get her back, they bring her to the vet & groomer’s and try to make her feel at home with them and their other dogs.
Grant was extremely nervous for this whole plan to come together. He wasn't sure how much of it would work and the thought of trying to convince Hannah he wanted to be with her again was enough to make him nauseous. After everything she had done, he was nowhere near thinking about that and if he wasn't convincing enough, Hannah could see right through him and the plan would be ruined. Once Danielle had left to settle things with Hayes and the judge as well as filling in the cops on the situation they would need help with, Grant started pacing back and forth in the living room, phone in hand. He needed to call Hannah, but his heart was pounding and he was freaking out. "Okay," he breathed out, talking to himself. Pressing her name in his contacts, Grant closed his eyes and swallowed hard as he waited for her to answer. "Hannah? Hey. It's Grant. Um...I was wondering if you would come over? I want to talk to you. About us. I think you'll like what I have to say. Bring Nora too, I miss her," he tried to say as hopeful and sweet as he could. When she said she'd be there in ten minutes, Grant sighed in relief. "See you soon," he said before hanging up.
Danielle left early enough to get to the precinct that was nearest her home and sat down with one officer and her laptop. She was already talking to Hayes, who was in the conference room with his friend who had been a judge all ready with the papers. All that was left would be to call Grant in their conference call and then they’d be getting the dog back—so she hoped. After explaining everything to make sure that they were all in the clear and exchanging fax numbers in just in case this all came together, she let out a shaky breath and added Grant into the call with her. The ringing didn’t stop, and she got worried that he might have still been on the phone still, and there was a part of her that was just worried that this might all go sour. “Come on, pick up the phone. Just pick up the phone”, she whispered out to the air, thumb worried in between her teeth out of nervous habit. “So, what’s happening so far? What’s going on?” And she could hear Hayes’ laugh and she turned her head to pout. She could always tell when he was laughing at her.
Grant ran a hand through his hair and realized that Danielle had been beeping in with the video call. Accepting the call, Grant could see that Hayes was with a judge in LA on one side and Danielle was with a cop on the other screen. When she asked what was going on and Hayes laughed at Danielle, Grant furrowed his brows and glared slightly before focusing on his girlfriend. "She's coming over, she said she'll be here in ten minutes. With Nora. So let's just hope she does," he said, sitting down on the couch and lowering his volume slightly. He didn't want Hannah to hear that he was doing a call when she came, knowing that could ruin everything. "So how long will it take you guys to get here once you can see how Nora is yourself? I just don't know how long I'll be able to stall..."
Danielle let out a soft sigh when Grant started on explaining what was happening on his end. Step one was complete, and the judge started going on what he’d be able to do for them. “As soon as I see if the dog is in bad condition, I’ll sign a paper stating that Hannah either give up the dog to the other rightful owner, or she goes to jail for animal cruelty. It’ll be faxed over to the police station right there” Danielle nodded and then pointed to the cop beside her. “He’s here to make sure she actually does”, she told him and looked at Grant with a soft smile. “It’s going to be okay, baby”, she spoke out now, throwing a small smile and a pep talk. “Just angle the camera at Nora, and we’re going to get her back. I’m just five minutes away by car.” Then a couple of knocks broke her out of her thoughts and everyone just tried staying quiet, pressing the mute button on her screen. “It’s show time.”
Grant nodded as he heard them starting to explain what would happen. The quicker he could show them Nora the better, knowing it'd take some time for them to sign and fax over the papers and then make their way over to where they were. Smiling softly when Danielle said it'd be okay, Grant nodded and took a deep breath. "Okay, I can do this," he said, locking his screen so that he wouldn't end the call accidentally while putting the phone in his pocket, needing to greet Hannah properly first. Hearing a knock on the door, Grant swallowed and went to open it, internally sighing in relief when she brought Nora. The dog looks miserable and it made his heart break even more, not understanding how Hannah could be so nonchalant about this. "Hey. Han," he said delayed, clearing his throat and moving out of the way. "Come on in," he said, staring at Nora for a few moments, desperate to just take her in his arms and never let go. Taking a seat on the couch, Grant swallowed hard as Hannah sat next to him. "So I've been thinking about a lot this and I've...missed you. And Nora. And all of us together and I wanted to give us another chance, if that's what you want," he said quietly, staring at her. "It is, I've missed you so much babe," Hannah replied, Grant nearly cringing. "Good. Yeah. Me too," he said, forcing a smile. When Hannah smiled and distracted herself by reaching into her bag to grab her phone, Nora still in her lap, Grant quickly took out his phone and angled the camera towards Nora so they could see.
Danielle made a face when she heard Hannah’s voice on the other side of the screen, seeing Hayes’ silent laughter on the screen. She stayed calm, just biting the inside of her lip now as she listened to what her boyfriend started out saying. Of course it had all been a lie, but still listening to the words still stung. Danielle had to stay focused though. She had to think of the endgame at play, and soon enough, they were able to see Nora in Grant’s lap. Scrambling, she looked up to see the judge signing the sheet and Hayes as well, thanking her stars that this was happening. When the fax came up and she heard the sound, she turned towards the cop that was with her and they were ready to go. Closing up her laptop, she started on her way home and texted Grant to tell him that she was on her way and that everything was going to be okay.
Grant saw that Danielle ended the call which hoped he meant that everything was going according to plan and they would be there soon. Once Hannah sent something on her own phone, Grant swallowed hard as she looked at him. "So how did Danielle take the news? I'm assuming she's going to get her stuff out of here immediately," she said, Grant trying to play along. "Um...yeah. I mean she's working right now, so later. We'll still be friends I think," he mumbled, not even knowing what to say about it since it was all lies. "Well I'd say I feel sorry but I don't. She took what was mine and that's not right," she said, reaching up to cup Grant's cheek. "I really missed you," she whispered, leaning in closer to him which made him pull away slightly. "Sorry. I'm really thirsty. Do you want something to drink?" He asked her as he started walking to the kitchen, taking a deep breath and getting a bottle of water. "Come on G, I don't want water, we've been apart for months. You know what I want to do," she said as he sat back down on the couch. Swallowing hard, Grant knew he couldn't do anything else at this point and he just prayed that Danielle would be here soon. Before he knew it, Hannah's lips were on his and a few seconds later he heard the door open.
Danielle ended up walking into the apartment just in time apparently, with Hannah’s grubby hands and lips all over her boyfriend. She cleared her throat, and shifted her weight around with the paperwork in her hand, and her newly found cop friend following right behind her. “Guess you just got Panabaked”, the brunette told the blonde and handed her the sheet of paper. There was no holding back when it came to her at this point. She was too angry and the anger just started welling within her. “That right there is court-ordered and and signed”, she continued on and crossed her arms over her chest. Her eyes were steely and her voice was completely monotonous in nature. “You have two options, really. You give us Nora and you don’t go to jail, or you go to jail and we get Nora anyway.” Then, a dimpled smile appeared on her face, tilting her head at the other woman and walked over towards her boyfriend and pressed her lips to the top of Grant’s head.
Grant smirked when Danielle came walking through the apartment with the cop, issuing a court order explaining that she had to give the dog to them or she was going to jail. Grinning when Danielle came over to him, Grant closed his eyes as she kissed his head, wrapping an arm around her to keep her close. "You set me up. What's wrong with you?" Hannah spat out, Grant rolling his eyes. "You're mistreating our dog. What's wrong with you? She's innocent in all of this and you used her. You really think I would go back to somebody like that? Not to mention I have everything I want and need already. And she's right next to me," he said, facing Danielle and grabbing her hand. "I would never give that up. Especially not for you," he said in frustration, letting out a sigh. "Fine, take the fucking dog. I don't want her anyway," she said, Grant swallowing hard. He was so glad Nora would be out of her care now, knowing she deserved so much better. When the cop left as Hannah said she'd give the dog back, Grant was ready for Hannah to leave now to. "Great, now get out," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "Sure, one more thing though," Hannah said before slapping him across the face. "That's for being a dick," Hannah added as Grant felt his face start to sting.
Danielle felt a rush and a thrill at this moment, knowing it was honestly something that was so uncharacteristic of her to yell as this; but they got Nora back and that’s all that matters. They had the dog in their arms and her hands squeezed Grant’s in order to let him know that she was here, that she was with him throughout everything. There was truly nothing they couldn’t accomplish if they were together. Though now, Hannah’s outburst had scared her even, and she couldn’t even call the cop back now that he had left the premises—but it was the final straw when Hannah slapped Grant across the face. “Enough”, Danielle stood up and growled at the other woman before laying one on her, hard. The sound of her hand connecting with Hannah’s face echoed in the apartment. Surely, she was seething angry, and she couldn’t hold it in any more. “That’s for being a bitch”, she started out and pointed towards the door. “You have no other business here, so please leave before I call my lawyer and the police and get a restraining order.”
Grant frowned as Nora jumped out his arms and went off, knowing that the violence happening and all the commotion was probably scaring her. "Hey, it's okay..." He tried to say but she was already going to hide somewhere and this made Grant even more angry, knowing Hannah was the reason for this. Before he could say anything, Grant's jaw dropped as Danielle slapped her, telling her to leave and threatening her with a restraining order. When Hannah finally took her bag and left, Grant followed her out, not wanting to risk it and making sure for himself that she left. Once her car out of sigh, Grant sighed and rubbed at his cheek that was still stinging before making his way back into the apartment, needing to find Nora. Finding her under the table in the kitchen, Grant kneeled down in front of her. "It's okay, Nora. You're safe now. Daddy's here. It's me," he said, trying to reach for her. When she flinched and pulled away, Grant swallowed hard. It hurt each time she did that and he knew it was going to take time, but it still upset him. "Come here," he tried again, patting his lap. "It's okay," he whispered, Nora still choosing to stay where she was. Letting out a sigh, Grant leaned back against the counter, sitting on the floor. "She's afraid of me," he said sadly as he looked up at Danielle.
Danielle out a loud, shaky sigh as the blonde left her sight. Now, she knew that Nora had to run off somewhere and she didn’t blame the dog for doing so either. The brunette wanted to hide herself, muddling over towards the kitchen and sticking her hand into the freezer. Right when she slapped Hannah, there had been a redness to her hand and a stinging pain; but at least she got her point across. They won, they finally won—so why did she feel like the war wasn’t really quite over just yet? So when Grant came and sat down, disappointment to his voice, she grabbed some ice and the terry cloth they used to dry their dishes and placed the ice in it for her hand. “She’s safe”, she told him quietly, sitting down beside him and laying her head on his shoulder. “That’s all that matters. She’s safe with us. And now we just have to give her time to get used to us.”
Grant swallowed hard and looked down again as Danielle got herself some ice for her hand. Even if Nora was safe with them now, he felt like things were far from over, needing to make sure Nora adjusted and wouldn't be so afraid. Jett and Bella were upstairs and he wasn't sure how they were going to react to her or how Nora would react to her. As Danielle joined him on the floor, he knew she was right that all that mattered was that Nora was safe, but it still bummed him out to see her reacting to him as if he was a stranger. "Yeah, I guess so," he said quietly, looking down at her hand that had ice on it. "Is your hand okay?" He asked, pursing his lips as he rubbed his face with his hand. "I gotta admit, I wasn't expecting you to slap her like that. It was pretty hot."
Danielle gave Grant a half smile, though it was directed to the dog in the corner of the room trying to take in its new surroundings. Baby steps, she figured, when it came to the dog. They needed to take baby steps and right now all that mattered was to get Grant to bond with Nora again—or her to bond with Nora so that they’d be able to get her the help she deserved. “It just feels tingly”, she started to tell her boyfriend about her hand, not knowing any other word for it. Surely, when her hand connected with Hannah’s cheek, she didn’t expect it to be that hard or to have it sting so completely bad. But she laughed gently and bumped shoulders with Grant then, letting out a soft, childish whine at the teasing. “You’re just saying that to make me feel better”, she whispered out. Truthfully, she felt guilt now for resorting to violence to get her point across, but she was just so frustrated she didn’t know what to do with herself. “I’ve never slapped anyone that hard before—and even just Tyler was just a ‘hey, stop that’ kinda thing. I feel bad.”
Grant nodded as Danielle said her hand felt tingly. It reminded him of when he would get angry and throw a punch or two but he didn't want to resort back to that behavior unless he absolutely had to. He knew this wasn't like Danielle but he didn't blame her in the slightest. Even the nicest people lost their cool at times and she had every right to after everything Hannah had put them through. "I'm not, I'm serious," he said, giggling softly as she bumped into him. "But it was still really nice of you to do, even if that sounds crazy. I mean after everything she's done to us, and her slapping me, and then you slapped her. I don't know. It was nice of you to stick up for me like that. It meant a lot, so don't feel bad, she had it coming and I appreciated it," he said, squeezing her shoulder gently. "And I'm sorry you had to see her...you know. Kiss me like she was."
Danielle tilted her head and listened on to Grant’s words. He was right in that aspect, Hannah testing them both and having them do things they otherwise wouldn’t. But she was always one for having people be kind, and she was very much kind and accommodating to the woman who wanted to steal her boyfriend away from her. “You’re right”, she said as she lead down to press her lips to his shoulder. Just like that, the image of Hannah kissing Grant again as she walked into the home popped up into her mind and she made a face. Frowning, she scrunched her nose in disgust and there was even just a little tinge of anger on her face. “Yeah”, she let out then. “She had it coming when she kissed you. Only I get to kiss you—unless it’s work, then there are work kisses.” To prove it so, she leaned towards Grant and gave him a slow, lingering kiss for a moment before pulling away, asserting herself in that moment. “Better?”
Grant smiled as Danielle kissed his shoulder, glad she was able to see that she had no reason to feel bad about what she had done. Listening as she spoke, Grant smirked when she said only she was allowed to kiss him unless it was for work. "That's right, and you're the only one I want to be kissing," he whispered, staring into her eyes lovingly. When Danielle moved towards him, Grant closed his eyes once feeling her lips on his, returning the kiss eagerly and reaching out to cup her face gently while he did so. As she pulled away, Grant smiled and nodded once opening his eyes. "Much better," he whispered, leaning in to kiss her nose. "I love you so much. Thank you for getting me through this. I can't say it enough. You're the best girlfriend in the world, I'm so damn lucky," he said, running a hand through her hair gently. "What do you want for dinner? I'll make anything you want."
Danielle was damn proud of that fact, and seemingly very possessive of her boyfriend. “That’s right”, she started out, nodding her head to agree with him. “I love you too, like a lot. Really, a lot.” At this point, she scrunched her nose when Grant had kissed it out of habit, shrugging her shoulders when he asked what she wanted for dinner. At this point, she could barely think about food, and that was merely so unlike her, but she offered out a suggestion anyway and licked at her lips. “There’s some vegetables that you can throw together in a stir fry”, she offered out, standing up now to throw the ice she used for her hand in the sink. For a few moments she stood there staring at the faucet, thinking about something in general. Maybe, just maybe if she tried coaxing Nora out of the corner with a treat, it might get the dog to be just a little bit more friendly. Now moving towards the pantry, she picked out one of Bella’s favorites, and stayed close enough, but still far away, from Nora and made a few tutting noises to grab her attention. “Nora”, she cooed out. “Nora, come here. Look what I have.” All in all, she really hoped it was going to work.
Grant nodded as Danielle suggested a stir fry, knowing that was quick and easy. "Alright, I can do that," he said, groaning as he stood up and made his way over to the sink to wash his hands. Going into the fridge, Grant got what he needed along with some chicken he could chop up and put in the stir fry as well, wanting it to have more substance. Making some rice to go along with it, Grant started working around the kitchen as he heard Danielle attempt to get Nora to come out from under the table with a treat. Nora had met Danielle a few times but he wasn't sure if she would know who she was or if it would just take time for her to warm up to them in general now. "I wonder if she remembers you," he pointed out as he started cutting up the vegetables. "It's been a long time. Way too long," he muttered, realizing that he hadn't been with Nora for months. "No wonder she doesn't want to even be near me, I abandoned her and she probably realizes that," he sighed in frustration, managing to cut his finger in the process. "Dammit," he muttered, walking to the sink to rinse it off with cold water.
Danielle turned her head back to Grant, shaking her head at his words. Though her hand still held out the treat for the dog, she realized that it might not be the best way now since Nora wasn’t budging. “Baby, you know it’s not like that. You didn’t just abandon her like that. There were circumstances beyond your control. None of this is your fault. You can’t think like that”, she tried to tell him, her words having that tone where all she wanted to do was have him see sense. None of this was anyone’s doing but the woman who—hopefully, she thought—was out of their lives for good. She winced when he cursed, making a face when she realized that he got hurt, and dropped the treat down on the floor for Nora to have anyway. Maybe it’d be best to goad her out slowly like that. “You alright”, she asked, standing near the counter and moving to sit on the stool nearest her. “I don’t think she likes me very much just yet, but we’re going to try, even if takes all night.”
Grant sighed softly as he heard Danielle said he didn't just abandon her. It felt like that in a way since he never fought for her when he should have. Nodding as she asked if he was alright, Grant grabbed a paper towel and applied pressure for a few seconds. "I'm fine," he replied quietly. "I just...I feel like I could've prevented this and I know I should just be glad it's over now but that thought is still running through my mind, especially when I see how much...she's struggling and how awful she looks. It just makes me feel like I could've stopped that from happening if I fought for her when we broke up," he mumbled, shaking his head. "She doesn't even like me so don't take it personally," he sighed before walking to the bathroom so that he could get a bandaid. Once he put it on his finger, he went back to the food in the kitchen, finishing everything up and getting it on the table so that he and Danielle could eat. Pouring them each a glass of wine, Grant sat down across from her and started eating. "After we eat I'm gonna call the vet. Hopefully we can get an appointment early tomorrow so that we know for sure she'll be taken care of and better. I'm a little nervous what they might find. I hope nothing is seriously wrong with her."
Danielle wondered the same. What would have happened had Grant had Nora completely? Would this test to their relationship never happen? Surely, life was full of what ifs, but she couldn’t dwell on them now. Everything about her life had this moment and been because of her choices, and she made the best one when she chose Grant right now. At least when Grant moved away from her and Danielle turned her head to watch him walk away, she turned her attention back to Nora and saw that the treat was gone. Okay, so it wasn’t the food and maybe now she’d try something else. So she just grabbed a bowl, not Jett’s nor Bella’s, and filled it with food and left it where the treat had been earlier. Doing the same with another bowl of water, she shot Nora a soft smile and moved to sit down across her boyfriend. There’d be a treat when the wine was poured, Danielle muttering a small thank you when she took the glass and sipped heavily from it. It was an exhausting day and the wine certainly helped her with it for now. “Afterwards, we can take her to Jett and Bella’s groomer’s. Sparing no expense. We’re going to give her all the help she needs.” A pause fell upon her now and she turned her head towards Grant at this point. She felt as exactly as he did—nervous, anxious—but didn’t know what to do with it. “She’s a fighter”, the brunette mused out. “Look at her. She’s hanging on every day and now she’s free and I hope she’s gonna be so happy here.”
Grant was glad to see that Nora at least ate the treat Danielle gave her, even if she waited until she placed it on the ground. He could only imagine how hungry she was considering she looked skinnier since he last saw her and that's why he wanted to make sure she was okay by bringing her to the vet, getting her updated on all her shots and then the groomer's like Danielle had suggested. "Yeah, I was thinking that too," he said, smiling softly. Hoping that everything would go smoothly, Grant knew he had to try and relax and just think about the fact that she was with them now, knowing that was most important. "I hope so too. I want her to be happy, to fit in with her our family. She was once before and I just hope that eventually we can get back to that. With new awesome additions like you and Bella, of course," he smiled, running a hand through his hair. Once he finished eating, Grant took another sip of wine and stood up to grab his now empty plate as well as Danielle's, walking into the kitchen to see Nora in the same spot as she was, just with all the food missing out of the bowl. Placing the dishes on the counter, Grant figured he'd try again, hoping maybe that they fed her, she would be more open to approaching him. "Hey, come here. Come see Daddy," he cooed, sitting down on the floor and patting his lap. "It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you."
Danielle hummed softly as she ate the meal her boyfriend cooked, eyes rolling to the back of her head with each savory bite. Everyone knew of her love of food, and she knew she loved to hog the kitchen; but she also relished in the days where Grant would be able to cook and she’d get to taste. Her leg went out now, underneath and across the table to his and rubbed her foot against his leg affectionately. She wanted to let him know that she agreed, wanting the same as he did, and wished it to be so. When he said that the additions of her and Bella in his life were awesome, she couldn’t help but smile and brought the glass of wine to her lips again, finishing up her food. Now, as much as she wanted to stay to watch Grant and Nora, she knew that giving them both some privacy would be best, and she made her way towards the kitchen to wash the dishes. Once that was done, she grabbed the bag of treats and sat down beside her boyfriend. “Maybe if it’s you trying to give her the treat, she might come. It wouldn’t hurt to try, right?”
Grant tried his best to get Nora to come to him but she was still set on sitting under the table. She looked frightened, she was shaking and every movement caused her to flinch and it was breaking Grant's hard. Swallowing hard, he refused to give up. Not yet when he still had time to try and get her to come to him. "Come here Nora, it's okay," he cooed, patting his lap again which made her flinch. "Okay, maybe I shouldn't do that," he mumbled. "It's okay, come on. You want a treat? Come here," he said, sighing as she didn't budge. When Danielle handed him the treats and said she might come if he was giving it to her, Grant shrugged. "Doesn't seem like it but we'll see," he muttered, holding the treat out while trying to get Nora to come towards him. After a few minutes of trying, Grant got frustrated and dropped the bag. "Forget it, she doesn't want to be near me right now so I can't force her," he said while shaking his head, standing up and walking away.
Danielle grew more and more somber by the minute, seeing Nora just so afraid and frightened by the both of them now. Surely, there had to be some way to coax the dog out from underneath the table, but seeing Grant’s frustration and dropping the bag of treats had been all too much for her. She let out a sigh, eyes looking as he walked away from the situation, but she turned her head back to Nora and laid down on the floor next to the table for a moment. “Hi there”, she cooed out to the dog again, giving it a soft smile. “You might not understand me and I know you’re afraid, but we’re going to be here for you, okay? You’re safe. I’m gonna refill your bowl with water, so you at least have something to drink—and I’m going to give you a blanket for you to sleep on.” Okay, she even widened her eyes at her own antics, but she did as she said. She filled up a bowl with drinkable water at this point and went to the linen closet where she pulled out a blanket she had saved from her old apartment and made a make shift bed for Nora should she want it. Now, she didn’t say much after that, but walked to find her boyfriend and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind. “Give her time”, she whispered out, pressing light kisses to his back. “She’s going to be okay again with time.”
Grant took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair in frustration. He knew that for Nora, this was a huge change and after who knows what Hannah had did to her, he didn't blame her for reacting the way she did. It still hurt Grant that she was doing it however but he knew that now he just had to focus on making everything seem as normal as possible. Pulling out his phone, Grant called the vet and groomer, scheduling an appointment with each for early tomorrow morning. Once he was off the phone, Grant sighed and closed his eyes as he felt Danielle wrap her arms around him from behind. "I know," he whispered, placing his hands on top of hers for a few moments before turning around to face her. "Today's been pretty exhausting, wanna just cuddle in bed until we fall asleep? I wanted Nora to sleep with us but..obviously that's not happening so I guess she'll stay down here and Jett and Bella can sleep with us like usual. I think it's best to keep them separated until we get Nora checked at the vet and everything. But then tomorrow we'll have to get them acquainted with one another," he said, grabbing Danielle's hand as they made their way up the stairs.
Danielle smiled at their position for a moment, letting her head just fall into Grant’s back in order to seek her own comfort, and only pulled up when he turned around to face her. The brunette was scared and hurt just as he was; but knew that this affected Grant way more than herself. This had to be heartbreaking for him and all she wanted to do was make it better. She had to tell herself that she couldn’t rush any of it, that time was going to be their partner in this as well, and time was just a fickle teammate they had to put up with. When her boyfriend turned around in her arms, she tilted her head up to be able to face him; but still kept her arms around him. He was right in that aspect, today had been exhausting, and knowing that they had each other to lean on had been the only comfort still keeping her on her feet. “She’ll be okay”, Danielle whispered out and pulled away. It was like she and Grant moved in sync now, she offering her hand just as he took it, and walked upstairs to their bedroom. Before they were able to disappear, she turned her head to see Nora accept the blanket as her own. Maybe that would help the dog get used to her new surroundings. So now, she followed him right into their bedroom, closing the door behind her quick so the dogs wouldn’t be able to get out, and moved quickly to fill the bowls that were in there with water so they’d at least have something for the night.
Grant got into the bedroom and smiled at the dogs who were excited to see them considering they had been up there alone for the past few hours. Letting out a sigh, Grant started changing out of his clothes to put on something more comfortable, a pair of sweatpants and a white t-shirt. When he was done getting dressed, Grant sat on the edge of the bed as Jett and Bella jumped up at him, knowing he hadn't given them much attention lately and feeling bad about it. "I know, I know," he cooed, petting them both. "I missed you guys too," he whispered, leaning down to press a kiss to each of their heads. Patting the bed so they would jump up, Grant laid down on his side and let out a sigh, staring at the ceiling as he thought about Nora. He hoped he'd be able to even get her to the vet tomorrow, knowing how hard it was just to get her to move out from under the table. When Danielle finished what she was doing and joined him, Grant laid on his side to face her. "I got us an appointment at the vet for nine and then we can take her to the groomer right after. These two goons could use a grooming too so we can probably get them all done then. Just not sure if it's a good idea with Nora and how we're gonna start the process of her getting to know Bella. And Jett again."
Danielle , after filling up the bowls for both dogs, had gotten ready for bed in her own right. Nora would have the whole downstairs for her to explore tomorrow—which might be a good thing because now she’d be able to get used to the other dogs’ scent. Worry still etched on her face, but she climbed onto her side of the bed and began to lie on her side as well. The dogs were right in between she and Grant, but that didn’t matter. They were just almost complete, which had been something that she hoped would be able to come to fruition soon--when Nora would get used to them both, of course. Her eyes locked onto his green and she pressed her lips together into a thin smile, glad that they had at least some plan of their day tomorrow. Sleep in Saturday would not be in full effect tomorrow; but at least they’ll be able to get something that they needed to get done. At the mention of the groomers, she nodded her head to agree with him. The dogs did need their own haircuts. “Okay”, she told him quietly, just that one word, and laid a hand on his cheek. His worry wasn’t unfounded, knowing that it would take days, weeks even, for Nora to be used to her surroundings again. “She has the whole downstairs to herself to reacquainted with Jett’s scent and to get to know Bella as well—I’m pretty sure they can also smell her on you, you know”, she hummed out, lifting her legs when the dogs got rowdy with them in bed. “They’re not so overly tired as I thought.”
Grant knew Danielle had a point and that the dogs probably did smell Nora on him, hence the fact that they were all riled up and sniffing his legs. Chuckling softly, Grant rubbed his face with his hands. "Well their afternoon wasn't nearly as exhausting as ours," he mumbled, reaching down to pet them when they walked in between them. After playing with the dogs for a few minutes, Grant found it hard to keep his eyes open and he knew that they'd have to be up early anyway, so he reached over to turn the light off before leaning in to kiss his girlfriend goodnight. "Night, baby. Love you. Thank you for everything today," he whispered before laying on his side to go to sleep. Groaning as he felt one of the dogs licking his ear early that morning, Grant rolled over and saw that it was almost seven, figuring he'd have to be up soon anyway. "You guys wanna go out?" He whispered, sitting up slightly. He knew they had been up in their room for a while and getting them outside without Nora seeing would be the next goal he hoped to achieve. "Shh, don't wake up Mommy," he said as he got out of bed, grabbing a sweatshirt to put on before making his way downstairs with the dogs.
Danielle leaned over to press her lips against her boyfriend’s to kiss him goodnight, and it wasn’t until morning that she’d awaken again. After getting up and getting ready for the day, showering and getting her things together so that they’d be able to get up and go out if they needed it make a quick exit, she went downstairs to the kitchen to check on Nora. Everything seemed to be in order, and she smiled when she found the dog relaxed against the blanket she gave it last night. “Hi”, she whispered out now, refilling her water bowl with water and then adding more food for their newest addition. After a few seconds of actually trying to bond with the dog, she started on making breakfast for both she and Grant—just a simple little bit of french toast and a rasher of bacon.
Grant brought the dogs outside for a few minutes so they could do what they needed to do, letting them walk around before it got too cold for them to just stand there. Bringing them back into the apartment, Grant knew that Nora was most likely still in the kitchen so to avoid confrontation until they absolutely had to, Grant brought the dogs upstairs to the bedroom. He was still a little nervous about having them approach Nora considering Nora still wasn't reacting to him or Danielle well. Walking back downstairs once Jett and Bella were in their room, Grant could smell Danielle making breakfast as he walked into the kitchen. "Smells good," he said as he kneeled down to try and approach Nora. He smiled at the fact that she managed to lay down on the blanket Danielle had offered her before bed last night, knowing that was a start. "Hey cutie. Hi. Come here, come see Daddy," he tried, staring at Nora as she looked up at him. Trying for a few more minutes, Grant sighed and stood up, running a hand through his hair. "Need help with anything?" He asked quietly.
Danielle turned around to face Grant as he walked into the kitchen, finishing up a few pieces of french toast and nodding her head. “It’s almost done”, she told him, reaching for her mug of coffee and taking another few sips. She was already on her second cup for the morning, but that was because it was just habit of hers to have it as such. Listening on to Grant plead with Nora to get some sort of interaction between them had broken her heart, but she looked at the time and realized that they needed to actually eat and get ready if they wanted to make it to the vet in time. “Does she not want to walk over to you yet”, Danielle asked of Grant, eyes looking up at him while handing him a plate and a mug of coffee. What are they going to do when it came time to actually take her? Jett and Bella usually had free reign of the backseat, but if Nora was to go with them, would they have to take separate cars? Would one of them have to hold Nora up front?
Grant shook his head as Danielle asked him if Nora was walking over to him yet. "Nope and I have no idea how I'm going to get her to the vet if she just stays under there," he muttered, sitting down as he started eating his French toast. "I don't want to force her because I don't want to be...anything like what Hannah might have done to her. But we'll have to get her to the vet somehow, even if that means going under the table and taking her into my arms. I just wish she'd come to me on her own. Every time she refuses, it really hurts," he mumbled, shaking his head. "I get needing time but it's me, she should know me. She should know I don't want to hurt her," he whispered, taking a deep breath. Blinking back a few tears, Grant ate the rest of his breakfast quietly as he tried to think about how to go about this. Jett and Bella were also getting groomed but he didn't want to overwhelm Nora. "Do you think we should take separate cars? Or if you drive maybe I can hold Nora with me in the passenger seat while they sit in the back. I don't know, but Jett and Bella will have to be occupied while Nora is getting checked out at the vet."
Danielle shifted on her feet as Grant spoke, hand reaching out to him as she moved to sit beside him with her own plate of food. Her hand rubbed his back gently, trying to show him affection and that she was there; but she didn’t know what else to do at this point. She listened on, biting down on her bottom lip as they ate in silence, finally taking her first bite of what she made. Still, one hand laid on his back, just to be able to touch him, and she gave him a soft smile when he asked for her advice. They were a team, and going back and forth like this with each other and getting the other’s opinion about everything had been something that she adored. “I think taking two separate cars would be a good idea”, she told him, mulling over her choices. They generally didn’t try to cage the dogs often, but if they had to, they’d need be. And they both have separate cars anyway. “Or if Jett has a cage, we can keep them in the ride to the vet’s first? Let them get used to Nora’s scent without them interacting?”
Grant looked over at Danielle and smiled softly, appreciating the comfort she was giving him. He listened as she explain what she thought, agreeing completely and realizing they could do either option. "Maybe we should do separate cars, if you don't mind driving too. Jett hates his cage and I doubt Bella likes it very much either so I don't want to have to do that to them if we can avoid it. Then once we both get back, we can see how they react to her," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. Looking at his watch, Grant knew they should probably get going so he stood up and grabbed the dishes, washing them for Danielle since she cooked. Once he was done, he made his way upstairs to change, putting on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt that he put a zip up jacket over. Getting his Clippers snapback, Grant put it on his head backwards and turned to face Danielle. "I'm gonna try to get Nora to come to me and if not, I'll have to just...put her in the car. I'll meet you outside."
Danielle fed both Jett and Bella when Grant moved to wash the dishes, though they were just going to have to eat in a different place from their spot in the kitchen. “Hi”, she cooed at her dogs, knowing that this had to be something that was bothering them. “I know, you smell someone new, but don’t worry, she’s gonna be okay”, she whispered out before she turned her attention back to Grant when he came in. “Okay, maybe you can try and bribe her with a little treat or something—and I’ll get the dogs into my car. We’ll just meet you there?” They were already taking separate cars anyway. So she grabbed leashes, something needed for when she had both dogs to herself, and pressed her lips to her boyfriend’s cheek. “I’ll see you there, alright? Good luck. I love you.” And with that said she, Jett, and Bella were off to the vet.
Grant sighed as Danielle suggested using a treat again, hoping that would help. "Yeah, sounds good. We'll see what happens," he shrugged, smiling as Danielle kissed his cheek. "I love you too, see you soon," he said before making his way out of the bedroom, closing the door behind him so the dogs wouldn't get out. Going downstairs, Grant went into the kitchen and grabbed a treat from the cabinet before kneeling down next to Nora to try and get her to come to him. "Come here Nora, you want a treat? Huh? Come see Daddy. Please," he nearly begged, needing some sort of reaction out of his dog. When she started moving closer, Grant grinned, encouraging her to keep going. When she stopped midway, Grant figured that was good enough and they didn't have much time to waste, so he leaned forward to pick her up and bring her out to the car. "It's okay, I got you," he whispered, kissing the top of her head gently. Putting her in the front seat where he could keep a close eye on her, Grant started driving to the vet, seeing Danielle eventually catch up with him who was now behind him in her own car. Once they got there, Grant got out of the car and grabbed Nora in the passenger seat before walking over with Danielle. "What should we do with Jett and Bella? Do you want me to just bring Nora in alone or?"
Danielle followed Grant towards the vet in her own car, watching Jett and Bella just roam around the backseat. They generally tried not to cage both dogs since they were trained and they tear up much of anything, really, but it was only because they’d have Nora now that they had to do this. But now as they managed to be at the office, she didn’t know what to do now. She and both dogs were still in her own car when Grant walked over to her and she turned around to see what she could do. She was so thankful that he wanted to include her in the decision making, wanted to have her there with them they checked on the dog, but would it be alright for reception to be able to watch both Jett and Bella for a little while? “Do you think we can leave them in the playpen they usually keep around so they can interact with the other dogs? Do you really want me in there with you”, she asked of him. The receptionist that was in the office had been pretty welcoming to their dogs herself. “It wouldn’t be so long, right?”
Grant listened as Danielle suggested the dogs hanging out in the playpen where they could play with the other dogs while Nora was getting checked out, seeing that as the best option. He wanted Danielle with him if possible since he was nervous about Nora, not knowing all the damage that Hannah could've done. "Yeah, that's a good idea. I do want you in there with me, I need you," he said, staring at her. "I'll go get Nora checked in and then you can bring the dogs in and leave them in there," he said, carrying Nora into the vet. Once signing her in, Grant took a seat in the waiting room and held her close, petting her gently as he waited for her name to be called. Watching Danielle bring Jett and Bella into the play area, Grant smiled and stood up when their name was called right then. As Danielle followed him into the room that one of the women led him to, Grant took a seat with Nora and let out a sigh. "I hope she'll be okay," he said quietly.
Danielle nodded and happily agreed. They were a team, and when Grant said he needed her, she was right there ready and waiting for him to give her instructions to do so. So when he left to go check in Nora, she grabbed the dogs and did the same. Giving the receptionist a small wave and explained her situation, she was able to leave the dogs in the playpen just in time for Nora’s name to be called. Jett and Bella would be alright. They were the most easy going dogs around. All that her attention focused on at this point would be Grant and Nora. She followed her boyfriend into the examination room, and she brought up a hand to Nora’s nose in order for the dog to get at least just a little bit of her scent so that she could be at ease; but she turned away from her and gave Grant a soft, half smile. “Me too”, she whispered out, laying her head against his shoulder for the while until the animal doctor came into the room.
Grant pursed his lips and rested his head on Danielle's once she leaned on his shoulder, still petting Nora as they waited for the vet to come in. Once she did, the woman introduced herself and Grant did the same, reluctantly handing her Nora knowing she had to get checked but enjoying the fact that she was in his arms. When the woman asked what had been going on with her, Grant sighed before speaking. "I just want to make sure she's up to date on her shots and that she's doing okay. It's a long story but um...my ex girlfriend and I broke up a while ago and she had Nora but then...well you can probably tell she's not in that good of shape so I just got her back last night and brought her here as soon as I could to get her checked out," he said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Is she okay?" He asked quickly, looking up at the woman. "I'll have to run a few tests first and really examine her before giving you an answer," the vet said, Grant exhaling shakily.
Danielle let her hand go to Grant’s back again as he stated what happened between Nora, Hannah, and the rest of the family up until last night. The situation had been pretty grim herself, and she nodded her head when the doctor looked at her to confirm. But there was a laugh to Danielle when Grant just asked if Nora was going to be okay with just one look that the doctor had given the dog, the anxiety getting to her as well, but she reached over to take his hand in hers in order. “She’s safe here”, Danielle whispered out as the animal doctor started getting to work. But she wasn’t able to just gauge anything by the doctor and that frustrated her completely.
Grant knew he was getting ahead of himself but he couldn't help it. He was nervous and needed to know that Nora was okay. Grabbing Danielle's hand for comfort, Grant started playing with it for a distraction as the vet started examining Nora. Frowning as she whimpered a little bit, Grant swallowed hard, wondering if that meant she was hurt. "Okay so Nora has a little cut here where her fur is all out of sorts. It doesn't seem like she's been to a groomer in a while and that's important," the vet said, causing Grant to sigh. "Yeah...yeah I know. She's going after this. I make sure to bring my dogs often, so that won't be a problem anymore," he replied quietly. "For the most part, she looks okay. There are some shots she'll need, to prevent any sickness or disease and to be on the safe side since we're not sure how long it's been since getting shots. It seems like it's been a while so I'll be right back to get those and then she'll be good."
Danielle managed to squeeze Grant’s hand tight when the vet let out that Nora had a small cut. She didn’t even know she was holding in a breath until the doctor muttered out the words that she was fine. “Oh thank god”, she whispered out to no one in particular and leaned her forehead against Grant’s shoulders. Already, even just before she had been a part of this family, she grew to love Nora and now that they had their family together, she didn’t know what would happen had there been something completely wrong with the dog herself. She pressed her lips thin when the vet left to get the shots and shifted on her feet. Nora was looking up at them both and she nudged Grant in order to get him to look. “Do you think she’s warming up to us”, she asked of her boyfriend, turning her head up to face him.
Grant was lost in his own thoughts as he waited for the vet to come back with the shots. As Danielle nudged him, Grant looked over at Nora who was looking at them, causing him to smile. "I hope so," he whispered, holding his hand out for Nora to sniff, which resulted in her licking him. "Maybe she is," he said while grinning, finally getting some affection from his dog. When the vet came back in, Grant knew that the shots would hurt, going through this process with her and Jett several times but he knew it was necessary and would make her feel better and prevent other stuff from happening. Once she was all done, Grant waited for the vet to make notes and give him the paper work, telling him to schedule an appointment for next month so she could check in. "Thank you for everything," he said, shaking the woman's hand before handing the papers to Danielle so that he could pick up Nora.
Danielle winced at how many shots Nora would have to get at this point, making a face and moving to hide behind her boyfriend as the vet started to administer them. She hated seeing things in pain, hated seeing them sad, which was why she always tried to make things better—and her heart literally went out and ached for Nora when the doctor was done. “Thank you”, Danielle whispered out and took the paperwork from Grant’s hands and folded it in her pocket. Now came time for the groomers, but even now Nora was beginning to perk up a little bit, which had been amazing. “You get her there first and I’ll follow you like we did at home”, she asked of Grant and started to reach out for the leashes she left with the reception. The groomers were close by, so they’d be able to walk if they wanted to.
Grant nodded as Danielle said she'd follow him to the groomers, knowing it was right next door which was convenient. Grant decided on putting Nora in the car anyway, wanting her to be as comfortable as possible. Driving to the parking lot over, Grant got out of the car and picked Nora up to walk into the groomer. "Just one more place, okay? Then you can go home and relax, I promise," he whispered against her fur, pressing a kiss there as he walked up front. "Hi, I have an appointment for three of my dogs to get groomed. I just need whoever is going to do Nora to be extra careful. She just got back from the vet and she has a cut on her body and...yeah. Just take good care of her, okay? Thanks," he said, kissing her once more before handing her over, smiling as he saw Danielle walking in with Jett and Bella.
Danielle smiled as Grant took his car to the groomers while she walked with the two dogs in question. The groomers had literally been right next door in the other building down the street, and it was but a short walk past a parking lot, but knowing that holding Nora and walking at the same time might be a bad idea. “Okay guys”, she said to Jett and Bella to get them to listen and into the doorway. She only arrived just in time when the groomers took Nora towards the back. Jett and Bella would be next. “Sorry, these two wanted to take their time, apparently”, she said as she handed the leashes towards the receptionist to walk back as well, and turned her attention back to her boyfriend. “And now, we wait.”
Grant sat down in the waiting area as Danielle brought Jett and Bella towards the receptionist to be brought into the back to get their grooming done as well. When his girlfriend joined him in the waiting area, Grant smiled and grabbed her hand. "Now we wait," he said, smiling and grabbing her hand, lacing their fingers together as he leaned closer to her. "Like proud parents," he teased, chuckling softly. Grant felt so much better now that Nora was cleared and seemed to be slowly getting back to normal with him. It was like all the hardest parts were finally over and now they could finally focus on being a family and getting back to normal in general. Once all the dogs were finished, Grant smiled and grabbed Nora, holding her close and petting her gently. "All clean and cut. Feel better?" He said to his dog, kissing the top of her head gently. She looked much happier and healthier and that's all Grant wanted for her. Smiling over at Jett and Bella with Danielle, Grant took out of his wallet and tried his best to pay with Nora still in his arms.
Danielle let out a small laugh when Grant said they were waiting like proud parents, which was entirely true. Jett, Bella, and now Nora were dog children and they as dog parents needed to take care of them as such. “You’re adorable”, she mumbled out after they laced their fingers together, holding his hand as the dogs got situation. Belle and Jett would be the easiest to finish, but the dog that needed the most tender and living care would have the ultimate package. Now, it was time to bring them all home and Grant’s position with Nora warmed her heart completely. “Baby stay right there”, she said as she brought out her cell phone in order to take a picture, and helped him out by pulling out a card in his wallet for him. Once that was done, she was able to take Bella and Jett home, but held the door out for Grant to walk in front of them. “So are we going to go home and let the siblings get to know each other”, she asked of him, teasing in her tone of voice.
Grant grinned as Danielle called him adorable. Posing for a picture when she told him to stay there while she took out her cellphone, Grant smiled wide, finally having a reason to after everything they had been able to get through. Once everything was paid for, Grant walked out with Nora in his arms, turning back as Danielle started speaking. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Hopefully it goes well. I'll see you at home," he said, kissing her cheek before putting Nora in the car, beginning to drive back home. Getting there first, Grant took Nora into his arms again, grinning as she started licking his face. "That's my girl," he whispered, kissing the top of her head as he went straight for the couch, sitting down and putting his feet on the table as he kept Nora close to his chest. "You're safe now, I promise. Daddy's here and he's not going to let anything bad happen to you ever again," he whispered, resting his head against Nora's gently and closing his eyes.
Danielle let out a soft smile when Grant had kissed her cheek, closing her eyes while doing so, and letting out a small laugh at her boyfriend’s antics. He was excited and so was she and at least when they got home today, they’ll sort of be together as a whole unit once more. As Grant started to leave in his car, Danielle walked to hers with the dogs, deciding on getting take out for lunch in the car. “Guys, settle down”, she mumbled out when both Jett and Bella started walking around the car constantly since she wasn’t moving. Using her phone to order sushi from their favorite restaurant, she drove and picked it up in record time, just making it back home to their apartment with a bag of food in one hand and the leashes with connecting dogs in another. “Tommy”, she yelled out into the restaurant. “I have lunch if you want it. It’s sushi. Got your favorites.” That was when she moved to let both Jett and Bella have all of upstairs, placing a barrier on the stairs if Nora still had the downstairs.
Grant heard Danielle's voice a little while later, saying she had sushi for lunch if he wanted it. "I'm in here," he said as he sat in the living room on the couch, still petting Nora. It looked like she was about to fall asleep which caused Grant to smile, wanting her to get some rest. Kissing the top of her head gently, Grant looked up as Danielle walked in the room, smiling softly at her. "Thanks for lunch, maybe I'll eat in a little while. Right now I just wanna hold Nora," he said, grinning as she rested her head against his chest. "When she wakes up, we can bring the dogs down so they can interact with her," he added, pursing his lips as he sat there with his dog.
Danielle walked back out into the living room with her box of food, leaning on her side against the wall just to be able to see what was happening. Grant had Nora on his frame, a smile on his lips, and it seemed as though the dog finally bonded with him completely. “You know, this view is very relaxing”, she offered out to her boyfriend, staying in her spot as of right now so she didn’t disturb them both. “Was she fussy on the ride home?” She pushed herself off the wall and moved to sit on the other end of the couch, just keeping her eyes on their frame. The sight warmed her, so completely happy that they were back together once again.
Grant smiled as Danielle said the view was relaxing, nodding in agreement. Just sitting there with Nora on top of him felt nice, especially since it had been so long since getting to connect with the dog like this. He hadn't realized how much he actually missed her until now and he was sure he wouldn't want to put her down at all at this point. "No, she wasn't actually. She just stayed calm in her seat. Maybe the vet and groomer helped. Seeing that she was getting taken care of. I just hope she's okay with the dogs and I want her to be cool with you too," he said, smiling softly. After a while of Nora sleeping, Grant wanted to get this part over with, knowing they couldn't keep the dogs up there forever. "You wanna get Jett and Bella and bring them down?"
Danielle started on her food, taking bites of what she ordered in silence and turned her attention towards Grant as he spoke. She agreed in his words, hoping that the vet and the groomers actually helped Nora and got her what she needed—and it seemed like she hadn’t been so afraid so far as of yet—but the worst was yet to come. Maybe they should have introduced her one by one to the dogs, getting them situated and used to her before bombarding her all at once. “Yeah”, she said as she stood up to clean up after herself for a moment, but turned her attention back towards Grant. “Do you think I should send Jett down first? Make it easier since he’s already familiar with her, somewhat?” Her tone of voice had been calming—or at least tried to be calming—and she pressed on to go upstairs and bring the dogs down one by one. Jett came down first, running down the stairs while she kept Bella in her arms. Their dogs were super friendly, sure, but she wanted to keep everything as calm as she possibly could for Nora.
Grant nodded as Danielle suggested bringing Jett first. "Yeah, that's a good idea since she already knows him," he said, clearing his throat and watching as Danielle went up the stairs. Chuckling as he heard what he assumed was Jett running down the stairs, Grant smirked before calling him. "Come here Jett," he said, watching him run towards him and jump up at his lap. "Careful. Say hi to Nora," he said, watching Jett sniff her, causing Nora to move slightly. "Hey, it's okay. You know Jett," he murmured, watching the dogs get reacquainted. It would be harder with Bella since Nora didn't know her but Bella was sweet and he knew they wouldn't have any trouble. "Come sit with Bella," he told Danielle, wanting them to sit next to her so that Nora could see her while Danielle was holding her.
Danielle hesitantly watched as Jett and Nora gotten reacquainted, and let out a shaky breath when she saw that Nora had moved slightly when Jett walked up to her. They knew each other, at least it’d be easy for them to get familiar with each other again. Now, she held Bella in her arms and moved to sit beside Grant, letting her hand go to pet her dog as Bella started on getting acquainted with Nora. “So far so good”, she whispered out, not really giving out much hope, but still showering Bella with as much affection as she could during the transition. “Not letting them have free reign around Nora yet, but letting them actually see her is a good idea, right?”
Grant smiled as Nora and Bella started sniffing each other, glad that it seemed to be going well. Jett was still begging for Grant's attention, pawing at his leg which caused him to wince. "Okay, okay," he muttered, reaching down to pet his head gently. "Yeah, they seem to be getting along well so far," he said while nodding. "Definitely. I think if we slowly let them start walking around and playing together, it should be fine. Nora seems okay with Jett and she's always been cool with other dogs so I'm sure once they're all roaming around, it'll be normal," he smiled over at his girlfriend. He was glad that things were finally okay again and to have Nora back with the dogs now in their own apartment, it felt good. Once Nora jumped down from his lap to go play with Jett, Grant smiled as Bella jumped to join them, grinning as they all interacted with each other. "Yeah, I think everything is going to be just fine," he said happily as he wrapped an arm around his girlfriend and kissed the top of her head gently before watching the dogs with a grin on his face.
Danielle nodded, but once Jett, Nora, and Bella started running away from them both and interacting, she knew that everything was going to be exactly fine. She had her own little family now—the dogs and Grant—and everything literally just felt complete. A smile shot from her lips, genuine and pure, and she leaned in the sofa in order to melt into Grant’s frame at this point. Her feet were propped on the coffee table, an arm slung around his waist as she laid her head on his chest, and her eyes played very close attention to the dogs running around in the living room. And she surmised he was right, running her thumb against the outline of his tattoo over his shirt, and pressed her lips down to where her head laid against him. Everything was going to be exactly fine.
