What if the Canvas isn't Aline's perfect life?
Aline's journal entry is focused on grieving the moments they won't have and the future he lost.
What hurts more are the memories unmade. The conversations we'll never have, the time we'll never spend.
What if Aline painted the Canvas so that Verso could have the 'perfect' life stolen from him? Come play in the space for a second.
We hear from Verso that his parents disapproved of his choosing to play the piano instead of making painting his life's work. But who do we hear that from?
Painted Verso.
The Verso Aline created. But in the Canvas, he's not a painter. He's the premier pianist in Lumiere. He plays at the opera house. Now, we have no way of knowing how far Verso made it as a pianist in Paris, but something tells me he would not have had the pull to be one of the leads at the Parisian opera house. It could have been a dream of his, but if that's the case, we have to accept some things.
Either a) Aline was a good enough teacher for Verso to reach concert pianist levels of talent (doubtful).
b) The family enabled him enough with tutors until he reached that status (which, again, means they supported him).
Or c) This is a mother reflecting a touch too fondly on her son and his passions, making him the bestest piano boy in the land.
In the Canvas, Verso is a concert pianist. He's not kept at home or with his parents at all times. He's struck out on his own. He is (presumably) successful on his own. He's pursuing a relationship all his own and starting a life independent of his family. He is safe because nothing bad can happen in Lumiere.
In other words? Pre-Fracture, life was perfect for Verso. He was talented, successful, pursuing his passion, and allowed to step out of his parents' shadows. Legitimately, everything was coming up Painted Verso until Le Fracture.
