[ 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 ] : as sender is about to leave, receiver grabs them by the wrist. +reverse (from Daryl to Beth)
beth's been keeping to herself and mindin' her own business like she promised she would. sometimes when it's only two people and one of them's got a needs their own space meter that seems about bottomless? you just gotta get used to being by yourself. and she's taken her time to find her own space in the middle of their little campground they've called home for what feels like long enough to say home. a rooftop of the former watchtower towards the opening of the place. something that gave the former counsellors and rangers a vantage point should they need one, she figured.
but now, it's been hers. she's got her own little set up inside. some candles and a few blankets. couple of books she holds precious. what's on top though? that's the best. high enough to stand over a lot of the trees, she's built a little ladder and both of them can make their way up to the roof if they want. since the previous one fell apart over time. now? she's taken her blankets and balled one up into a pillow. made the other ones into a bed and is sprawled out.
cloudless and starry. the air's crisp and fall's starting to settle into the trees turning them into colors that makes them look like a canvas made masterpiece. they're muted underneath the belly of a full moon but it's bright enough that she can still see some of the reds and oranges. one thing about when the dead started filling up the world? it sky above their heads sure did start coming far more beautiful than she remembers. or maybe she never got a chance to look and truly appreciate it until it was one of the last places around them that didn't have anything rotting away under your feet.
her boots were kicked off. socks stuffed inside. bare feet let her toes catch the breeze and it felt good. the river supplied their lake with clean water still came out of some of the showers. cold as hell but it was worth it to be clean. more indulgent days, she could heat up some bath water on a fire. maybe she'd do that later. if daryl didn't wanna talk.
pulse picks up as she hears him coming up the ladder. beth pushes herself up onto her elbows and looks up at him. she doesn't make a move to sit up yet. the two just stare at each other. "you need something? i mean.. if you want to be up here?" legs shift and she uncurls enough to stand up. "you coulda least said please," she shoots him a half-serious, half-prodding smirk as she makes her way towards the ladder leaving her things there. he might need 'em.
his fingers around her wrist bring her to a sudden stop. green eyes squint towards the floor before she look over her shoulder at him. her teeth got her bottom lip captive. yeah her breath caught. it was surprise is all. what? "daryl..?" a soft, questioning sorta tone. what was on his mind?
