Watching videos of Artemis II being in space and then landing on earth has me sobbingggg. So incredibly beautiful and moving.
And we blow each other up and commit atrocities against once another.

How did they even get it up there?
beyond delighted about the fact that just now, after spending 5 hours at work poring over radical leaflets from the 1810s (most of them self-published, home-printed, hand-distributed, satirical, and intent on abolishing private property), i left my office to get lunch & was immediately handed a self-published, home-printed, satirical anti-christmas-goose pamphlet by an elderly man wearing a newsie cap. truly humanity is always the same everywhere
Someone just replied to a Reddit comment I made 6 YEARS ago.
And the reply is kinda…bitchy.
Like, just why, random person, why?
So, I've heard this a few times, but I'm still quite confused, because like... are you saying war is worth not having women in charge? Are you saying few countries ignoring each other is worse than dying (even if that was how it would be resolved)? I just don't understand. Even writing this I don't really know what the point exactly is except for making fun of women.
I love little human acknowledgements.
The nod you give to fellow runners or walkers when you pass each other going in opposite directions.*
The meeting eyes and tiny smiles and sense of camaraderie you build with a perfect stranger who happens to have stood behind you in a slow-moving line.**
The little “goodnight,” or “have a good day” you give to the stranger you shared an elevator with before you step out and go your separate ways.***
The little acknowledgments between two people who occupied the same space at the same time for just a fleeting moment, recognizing that you will almost certainly never see each other again, but you wish each other a nice life.
* Please maintain at least 6 feet of space.
** Also wear a mask.
*** Seriously though maintain social distancing and wear a freaking mask! ;)
Came across this great little nugget in The Atlantic, in an article titled “What 10,000 Steps Will Really Get You” and yeah, that’s about right:
“I-Min Lee, a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard University T. H. Chan School of Public Health and the lead author of a new study published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association, began looking into the step rule because she was curious about where it came from. “It turns out the original basis for this 10,000-step guideline was really a marketing strategy,” she explains. “In 1965, a Japanese company was selling pedometers, and they gave it a name that, in Japanese, means ‘the 10,000-step meter.”
Based on conversations she’s had with Japanese researchers, Lee believes that name was chosen for the product because the character for “10,000” looks sort of like a man walking. As far as she knows, the actual health merits of that number have never been validated by research.“
