I decided to let the cravings for enrichment and the Rachel Maksy-induced hubris win and spent the past weeks steampunking my old computer case:

The most work was in carefully taping all the ridges so I could do the different colours with spray paint and in making sure the spray paint did not get everywhere else, including inside my lungs. The whole thing is just paint and foil tape, but I'm honestly chuffed with it. Eventually I'd like to add more weird steampunk details to it, but for now this is making me very happy.

I did not sand or prime anything, I just cleaned everything with rubbing alcohol before spraying or painting it. Except the green button. That was white plastic with black paint on it, so I sanded the black off and then went over with the green paint meant to imitate stained glass that I also used on the window.

I found a second hand mouse that fit the vibe of my computer that was already copper coloured, but I decided to paint that too so it would be the exact same shade. I should not have done that. It looks good, but this paint is clearly not meant to be touched continuously with bare skin, I can smell the metal on my fingers every time I've touched it.
