“I think I handled that quite well.”
Tegan whacking the alien that was attacking the Doctor with a rifle is one of my favorite things. XD
Day 3: A Favourite Classic Series Companion
Okay, so my first thought was Sarah Jane, because who doesn’t love Sarah Jane. But then I realized that I couldn’t do Sarah Jane as my favorite companion because she’s really My Doctor.
Here me out.
I do not have a First Doctor. The first thing I remember when watching Doctor Who is The Five Doctors, which is like, all five at once and totally not fair plus mentally scarring for a young Whovian who now has no First Doctor like everyone else in the fandom does and can only look at those pretty shirts with things like “I’ll always <3 my First Doctor” in envy.
I have never forgiven my mother for this.
The second thing I remember watching is K-9 and Company. And, ya know, Five Doctors has Sarah Jane and K-9 and Company is essentially Sarah Jane and Company. She’s got K-9, she’s solving mysteries, and she’s pretty bad ass. So she’s essentially My First Doctor. Therefore she can’t be my favorite companion. I have to pick someone new.
(aka, Mem loves Sarah Jane, but lots of people are doing Sarah Jane, and she came up with a convoluted reason to talk about someone less popular)
((It’s 100% true though, convoluted or not))
Now, I do love Ben and Polly, and Leela, and Barbara and Ian of course (where are all my teachers at? XD Teacher Clara is also legit one of my favorite things about New Who because so much relatable going on), and Victoria, and Harry, and well, lots of companions, but I thought I’d talk about one in particular today.
I really love Tegan. She gets a lot of the same flack Donna gets in fandom as the shout-y/bitchy one, but honestly I love sarcasm and how she’s almost eternally annoyed at Five. While this is EU, she legit shoves the stock of celery in his mouth in one of the audios, and how can you not adore her for that alone? It’s completely canon to me. XD But she’s not just the bitchy/shout-y one. She’s also clever and resourceful, and really a moral heart when Five loses sight of his. Her exit from the TARDIS was absolutely heart breaking, because she was keeping a brave heart, but she couldn’t let the Doctor break it any further. Not when he’s changed more than when he changed his face. She is absolutely saying he’s gone too far this time, and she can’t keep travelling with him like that. And I love that she chose that, and how emotional it was for her. It wasn’t a happy ending, but it wasn’t a death either, which is pretty rare.
And she takes none of the Doctor’s BS, which is always a beautiful thing. Shes not overly-awed by him, and she’s going to let him know that. XD Plus Five sulked so much when she was gone. I just really love Tegan and her relationship with Five. And I wish they’d done tons more with her relationship with Nyssa.
Brave heart, Tegan. Brave heart, Doctor. T_T
