Envy in His Smile
C’mon we all know we need some Jealous Baz in our lives.
SIMON
I always sit in the back corner of my classes, since there’s no room to stand behind or to the left of me. Which means no one walks around my desk and accidentally touches my wings or tail. Even though I keep it wrapped around my waist. (Sometimes Baz has to spell it against me because it has a mind of it’s own).
There’s a new girl in class today. One of my English classes. (I’m not quite sure how or why, since it’s a two semester course, and the first semester is just about over). And she took my seat. Well, not my seat, since assigned seating isn’t a thing in Uni, but that was practically my seat. The only other place to sit is next to her (small room), but even then I feel uncomfortable. She could just reach her arm out to the side and touch them, and then they’d go fucking nuts since they’re sensitive to strangers.
Baz usually waits for me to get out of this class. His ends a bit earlier, but not enough that it’s worth going back home and then coming back again to pick me up. Either way, I just can’t wait for this class to be over. It’s a work day, which means a nap day. The teacher almost makes me fall asleep as it is, and on work days when people actually do, he doesn’t care. I care though. Because now I can’t fall asleep. I’m too nervous that my wings are going to touch her. Or my tail, that would be worse.
“Hey, is he gonna start teaching, or did he plan something another day for you to do today and I didn’t get it?” I look up, then over. She’s American. Figures. Probably studying abroad.
“Uh… it’s a work day. We’re supposed to be working on our final projects. A lot of people already finished, though, so you can really do whatever,” I shrug. She looks bored, but maybe that’s just her face. I try not to judge someone by the way they look, after all look what happened with Baz. All the glances I thought were him plotting my demise were really just glances.
“Cool, I’ll ask about it later,” she nods, “what high school did you go to?”
I blink. What? Oh, yeah, American school system. “I was in a boarding school from eleven to eighteen,” I say, pursing my lips.
Her face lights up. Not a lot, but enough. “Oh really? Which one, my friend went to one here.”
Yes. You’re friend went to Watford, sure. “Watford. Not very well known,” I lie, because oh boy is it well known. Just not as a magick school.
She shrugs, not knowing what it is, and just leans back in her chair, ending the conversation with not a word more. I furrow my eyebrows. Pretty rude if you ask me. Though Baz has probably done that to me back at Watford more times than I could count.
The end of the class comes dreadfully slow, but right when the clock hits twelve I slide out of my desk and sling my bag around my shoulder, knocking my wing a bit out of the way. I carefully squeeze through the others to get out the door, but when I get halfway down to the sidewalk someone pulls on my arm.
“Hey,” she says, “I never introduced myself. I’m Carly,” she smiles. It confuses me, because the bored expression is nowhere to be seen, and she’s acting as if she had no idea that she’d been rude to me. (Which is another thing).
“Uh… Simon,” I grip the strap of my bag.
“Awesome, uh, hey, I haven’t been here long, and I’m really not familiar with the campus, or London in general,” she smirks, and digs out a piece of paper from her pocket. Her smile is obviously flirtatious now, and it makes me uncomfortable.
I try not to make a face, and take the paper without a word, “If you want, we could get together sometime? Maybe tour around town? I’d like to get to know you better.”
I don’t know what to say, not that I really ever do. But I’m saved, because as she goes to reach out to me, someone sidles up to my side, hand subtly stroking my wings (which I almost purr at, not that I’d admit it). And his head tilts to kiss me. Not a small kiss either.
I hum against him, pulling away with raised eyebrows. He sneers at me, aware that we both know he’s being extra, but he continues sliding his thumb up and down the crook of where my wing meets my back (of course it shuts me up. I have to contain myself from not purring like a fucking cat).
“Is this a friend of yours, Snow?” Baz asks, faking a smile at the girl. And it seeps resentment.
She looks more uncomfortable than anyone I’ve seen, “Uh… no, just someone from class,” she scurries around us both.
When she’s out of hearing range, I give Baz a disapproving look, “You do know how gay I am for you, right?”
The crease on his forehead softens. He stands up straighter, taking his weight off of just his one hip. He lets his hand fall from my back, his thumbs hook in the belt loop of his jeans (which is one thing). His lips part just enough for me to be able to see him running his tongue along the bottom of his teeth, over his fang, but then he shuts his mouth with a smirk. “Oh I know,” he says, “but I had to wait a long fuckin time for you Snow. Won’t let you get swooped up that quick.”
I suppress an eye roll, knocking his arm with my own as I push past him. He steps into rhythm with me. “Your smile gives it away, can’t fake a smile for your life. No wonder you just never bothered even trying to smile at me back at school,” I feel smug. And I know I’ve got this one. “You get jealous.”
He laughs. A small one. An acknowledging one, smaller than a one syllable word, but one that’s still enough. He’s quiet for a moment, and as we reach the side walk he digs the car keys from his pocket. “Not gonna deny that one, Snow.”
Hopefully the guys heard me right… If he did, I am literally the best girlfriend ever like… wow go me
Ugh I need to get my classes for next semester together
