Send Me A ☁ And I'll Write A Scene From My Character's Past
How Harley and Her Son Met
It was like some sort of twisted nightmare for these children in front of her. Granted, she had only been volunteering at the orphanage for three days now; but even then she had felt the validity of feelings that all of these children had. False hope, potential parents coming in and out every day and choosing one over another because of fairly superficial reasons--and her heart ached for each single one that got rejected or each new child brought into the home because of circumstances beyond their control. It was maddening, sickening, and it hurt her beyond her control.
If only there had been some way that she could easily remedy the situation.
Harlequin, or Harley as she was so affectionately called, had always had some sort of mothering aspect to her--whether it be babying her younger brother or playing with the family pet (who now currently resides with just her mother and father)--and being in the orphanage in Nice to which her family donates and sponsors had basically tugged at her heartstrings completely. She connected to every single little in the home, playing anything they wished of her, even answering questions that most women had to answer if they were mothers. All in all, it was both a rewarding and eyeopening experience.
The day started out just as any other. She had arrived early in the day from her family's compound, smiling at every single greeting she had gotten from her new little friends, and moved swiftly to the front office where her official security badges and whatnot were waiting to be signed to her. Already, she could hear the crying of a newly delivered baby and that already sinking feeling of the pit of her stomach started to kick in.
"Bonjour", she spoke out to the elders, trying to see what the commotion was about. It was hectic--most of them seemed like they hadn't slept a wink all night.
"Ah, Harley! Le bébé n'arrête pas de pleurer et les autres n'ont pas dormi de la nuit. Pouvez-vous s'il vous plaît nous aider?"
"Oui, sure", the brunette nodded while outstretching her arms for the baby. He couldn't be more than a few days old, much less old enough to know what was going on. It would seem like the elders had done everything they possibly can for him as well. Diapers, blankets, bottles--nothing satisfied him. How was she going to calm him down?
But as soon as she held that baby in her arms, brushing the blanket that had been on her face to see him fully, his eyes opened up to the brightest brown she had ever seen and her breathing stopped. And as if he could sense her awe, he had stopped with his crying, and just kept his gaze fully on Harley.
"Hi", she whispered out, bringing just a finger to his cheek. The elders were stunned, quiet at the connection that this twenty-three year old had with a newborn baby, and said nothing. They just stood there, knowing what was to happen next and did nothing to stop her.
That was the moment that Harley fell in love and realized she was meant to be a mother--his mother--and as soon as she had gotten him to sleep, she started on the paperwork that would basically change both of their lives forever.
