Joey and I just impulsively booked flights to Rome for the spring, and I am dying of excitement.
I was in Rome just after we got engaged, and I spent the entire month thinking, “Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to bring Joey here” and “Joey would love this gelato” and “I wish I could wander with him”.
I somehow love him more now than I did then, and now we are going. By ourselves. I will be in Italy with my husband!
We are not even halfway finished with our stretch of long distance (oh my gosh, 7 months is so long), and this feels like a beautiful light at (or just past) the end of the tunnel.
I accidentally fed coffee to my Mormon friend
So on Thursday(05/11/17), I decided that it was due time for me to make one of my friends a birthday cake and wish her a month late happy birthday. Since she asked for a chocolate cake, I went home that day and tried to concoct the chocolateiest cake I’ve ever thought of.
A CHOCOLATE POKE CAKE.
However, I got too cocky with my baking skills and added heavy whipping cream instead of plain milk into the cake batter and boi did it come out ugly. The taste was fine, but the cake was sooooooooo lumpy...
Anyways, I cut the top off to make it flat and went on to poke a lot of holes in the cake. Then I made the chocolate sauce to pour over the cake and soak it for added flavor because that’s what happens with poke cakes. The sauce recipe called for sweetened condensed milk and chocolate but I decided to add instant coffee too because my friend likes coffee. Everyone likes coffee. I added it to the chocolate whipped cream too. And then I forgot about it.
The next day, I sheepishly gave the cake to my friend at lunch and explained to her that it was supposed to be a poke cake but the cake came out too lumpy so I cut off the top part but then it was too thin so I broke the top into pieces and spread it out on the cake and then layered the whipped cream on. She didn’t care, she just likes chocolate. All was well. They tasted the coffee. It was delicious.
Me being me, I thought my friends at the other table would like some, so I loaded a plate and brought it over to them. They were delighted. @heartsasleep took a forkfull and my other friend hogged a whole piece. Mission accomplished, back to the birthday girl feeling happy. Later, @heartsasleep marched up to me and asked if I added coffee in there. Oh. SNAP. SHE’S MORMON. ~Part 2
OH, I'M SO HAPPY
I COULD DIE FOR THIS
