hi emy, we’re almost at the end of this year… I think we can make it??
let’s think about ed and stede a lot today ❤️
LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO, WE'VE GOT THIS!!!
I have had a fairly busy day, but don't you worry, I did a LOT of thinking about Ed and Stede. Specifically, I was thinking about how every day Ed and Stede walk along the beach, partially just for some quality time together, partially because it's good for their health, and partially to see if maybe they can find some oysters for supper and if perhaps the rumors are true that they're aphrodisiacs, well, all the better!
One day they're back at the inn shucking their oysters, and Ed hears Stede curse. Naturally he assumes that Stede cut himself with the knife, but no. Stede sheepishly reveals he keeps hoping that one day he'll find a pearl in one of these oysters that he can give to Ed. All he wants is to give Ed something special. They can't afford many luxuries in this new life they lead, but he thinks maybe nature might provide him with something beautiful to give to the most beautiful man he knows. (Ed: oughhhh.)
And then. The very next day. Ed finds a pearl.
He tries to hide it, close the oyster back around it and shove it toward Stede so Stede can think he found it on his own, but, well, he's not exactly subtle and Stede notices.
Stede: What are you doing?! I know you found that pearl.
Ed: What? Me? Noooo. You found it! All your years of looking for a pearl finally paid off!
Stede: It doesn't count if YOU'RE the one who found it! I have to find it on my own, *organically*
Ed: Can't get more organic than a bloody pearl, mate. Straight from the ocean, that.
Stede: That's not what I meant! Take your pearl back. I'm going to find my own so I can give it to you properly.
Ed: No! You found it honorably, it's now yours to do as you see fit. Maybe tie a little bow on it when you give it to me.
And that's how their little game of "hide the pearl" begins. Stede puts it in Ed's pocket, Ed puts it in Stede's glasses case. Stede puts it in Ed's knife sheath, Ed tucks it next to the candle on Stede's side of the bed.
On and on and on this game continues, years upon years, until finally, one day, Ed reaches for Stede's his cravat to tie around his neck, and finds the pearl, now on a simple gold ring, dangling from the fabric. And when he turns around, he sees Stede. Down on one knee. ❤️
