Oh i remember temtem, I gave it a shot for a bit but largely gave up on it when I realized it just didn't really make any sense. And the Plot was Really Bad. I don't understand why they tried to do it as an mmo when the plot is like, cookie cutter pokemon and only makes sense for single player. Never really understood why it was an mmo. I'm glad I gave up on it though because I tried coromon instead and that was way better.
temtem generally drives me crazy because like. it COULD have been good. i don't think it could have been GREAT unless they adjusted the story, but there was so much about it that was generally really interesting
the worldbuilding is fun. floating islands that you drift between with steampunk dirigibles? with our 'proper earth' below it that no one's ever been down to because it's too dangerous and only wild animals live there?? that's fucking awesome.
living in a modern society in which technology has altered the ecosystem and created a subspecies of temtem that are partially/entirely digital?? really cool
its so crazy because like. crema really REALLY wanted to be 'better than pokemon'. but all the good things about the game (beyond the worldbuilding) are good because they sampled from pokemon. and all the bad things about the game (beyond the story) suck because they decided to arbitrarily drift AWAY from pokemon
what do you MEAN that- instead of leveling up when hitting a certain level- tem evolve after a certain number of level ups IN YOUR PARTY?? and what do you mean the game doesn't tell you the level you caught a tem at, meaning you have no fucking clue how many levels you have left before they evolve? and what do you MEAN the leveling and grinding is a slog in itself?!
it incentivizes just hatching a tem from a newborn and discarding the one you caught. which defeats the entire purpose of a game about bonding with animals
EXCEPT. YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT. BECAUSE OF THE FERTILITY MECHANIC. THAT'S UTTERLY UNNECESSARY. what are we DOING.... WHAT ARE WE DOING
