I plan to read Drumbeat for the Mending by Elizabeth McNamara for a while now. Imma do this after I finish this!

Soooo the edition I got from A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston was super gorgeous and then I love the imprint Vendetta by Catherine Doyle has on the pages. I like em pwetty

If you had to choose one bookworld to live in, which one would it be?

Ugh, that’s hard. Probably being a wizard in the Harry Potter world, okay no that’s it. I’m drawing a blank hahaha

36) Define Art.Tough to define.  I suppose, art is something that makes you feel.  Good, bad, scared, excited.  Art can be a painting that makes you feel a certain emotion.  

37) Do you believe in luck?I believe in circumstances.  Luck?  Depends on how you view it.  I like to think that things happen for a reason, as to what that reason is?  That’s up to you.

70) Are you the kind of friend you would want to have as a friend?I can only hope I am.  I certainly try the be the best friend that I can be for a person.

Kara opened one eye and tried to hide her smirk.  Luke was still pulling her along, but had looked back at the right moment to catch her. “No peeking!”  Luke growled, throwing his hand in front of Kara’s face.  “You’re going to ruin the surprise.”   “I don’t see why you can’t just tell me,” Kara said, closing her eyes again and obediently walking behind Luke.  It felt like an insane trust exercise.  Luke had been guiding Kara with his hand and his voice for over an hour, cautioning each step and warning her about every hazard that might surprise.  Even reaching tree branches from trees on the property weren’t going to snag her hair today.  Still, Luke had insisted that she keep her eyes closed. “You’ll see,” Luke said again, almost laughing to spite her. “If you keep saying that,” Kara said, “I’ll assume you’re just a broken record leading me on.” “We’re almost there,” Luke said dropping his voice low.  “Keep quiet now.” “What’s the big surprise?”  Kara said, feeling Luke pull her into a crouch.   “Open your eyes...” Kara opened one eye carefully and then the other.  He’d led her out to the barn his parents owned.  Luke had worked there for the past three summers almost exclusively.  It was a good job and he let Kara hang around the barn and doodle, sometimes let her help.  She’d gotten attached to a few of the animals and was saddened when they would leave for any reason.   In the pen in front of Kara, the family cow Harriet (usually just Harry) was curled up in the far corner.  Next to her, in a tight little ball, was a nearly newborn calf.   “I didn’t want you to scare her,” Luke said, squatting down onto a hay bale.  “But I wanted to surprise you as well.” “Luke, she’s beautiful,” Kara said, sitting next to him on the hay bale.  “She is a she, right?” “Yes,” Luke laughed.  “It is a girl.” “Absolutely darling,” Kara said.  The little calf had light brown fur with a little triangle of white on the forehead.  Her large ears looked ridiculously out of place, and the dark eyes seemed to be fighting to stay awake.  The mother cow licked the baby, making the eyes droop a little each time, but the calf refused to yield to its need to sleep.   “How old?” “Just on her third day,” Luke said, leaning back and crossing his ankles.  “She was a struggle, but Harry is a tough girl.  Happy, healthy and all the needed appendages.” “What’s her name?” “We wanted you to name her...” “Me?” “Yeah,” Luke said.  “Mom and Dad decided you’re here as often as I am.  And you’re here by choice.  They wanted you to have some input to the little girl’s name.  So what do you think?” Kara crossed her legs at the knee, kicking her left foot like a pendulum, thinking hard.   “Hmm,” she mused.  “What kind of name do you want?” “There’s all sort of ways you can name her,” Luke said.  “Famous people, book characters...unlikable relatives.”   “She’s too cute to my Uncle Verne,” Kara laughed.  “She looks a little like a Nellie.” “Nellie, huh?”  Luke thought, grabbing the clipboard hanging from the stall.  “What made you think of that?” “Her tag,” Kara pointed at the yellow clip hanging from the calf’s ear.   “N-3113?” “N. E. L. L. E,” Kara spelled, pointed to each symbol.   “You’re short an ‘I,’” Luke laughed, but filled out the name on the form. “She’s still Nellie,” Kara said.   “Besides, she looks like one.” “Then Nellie she is,” Luke hooked the form onto the hook by the door.

Someone wakes up in the morgue, running from what's on the other side

"How long has she been dead?"

"Your necrophilia should be something you keep out of my morgue, Mike,"   John smirked, trying to lighten the mood.  Though he couldn't help but agree with him.  She was sixteen according to her records, had light brown hair and pale skin, probably paler than normal.  One thing that caught 

"What's the service the family is calling for?"

"They want to bury her," Mike said, filling out the last of the paperwork.  "No viewings, no fuss...just put her in the ground with a stone to mark where she is."

"Worse things, I guess.  Bit depressing."

"She was hit by a car," Mike said, passing John the clipboard for his signature.  "Poor girl.  I hope that she died quick.  That's the only way I can foresee a happy ending."

"Agreed," John said, handing back the paperwork.  "Thanks Mike, have a good weekend."

Mike only grunted in reply and exited back into his truck.  John pushed the table down the hallway, the blanket now covering the girl's body.  He'd wheel the girl into the freezer until Monday.  The paperwork said she wasn't going to the cemetery until Wednesday.  She could last a couple of days in the freezer.  

"Too late to start anyways," John said to himself.  "Might as well not do the job if I'm not gonna finish."

John started humming and singing to himself.  He stopped the cart in the middle of the room and sat at his desk to fill out the paperwork before closing her in the fridge.  "I don't care too...much for money!  Money don't buy me love.  Can't buy me Looooovvve.  Loooovve.  Money can't buy me--"

John stopped and stared at the body for a minute.  He could have sworn the sheet moved.  It was almost like she was...breathing.  

The corpse bolted upright, sucking in a deep breath of air and gasping.  She turned to the side and spit, suddenly vomiting all over the floor.  She looked over at John and wheezed a little.  "Where am I?"

John fell backwards and landed on the tile with a loud THUD and his legs were up in the air. 

Perry climbed off the cold metal, wrapping herself in the sheet for her own modesty.  The morgue only held dead bodies and a passed out mortician.  Perry walked over to the reflective surface of the fridge and looked at the reflection.  She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but she thought she'd look different.  She felt different.  Sore...kinda like she'd fallen on her side.  She pulled back the sheet and saw a massive bruise that was slowly returning to normal color and the memories all came running back.

"The car," she whispered, feeling the impact from when it struck her.  "The road...the darkness and then..."

She turned around quickly and looked down at her toe.  She reached down quick and yanked the tag off.  

NAME: PERRY WILSON

AGE: 16

DELIVER TO: HODGE'S MORTUARY 

CAUSE OF DEATH:--

Perry couldn't read any more of the small tag, throwing it as far as she could.  After a few minutes of frantic breathing, Perry ran a hand through her hair.  She pushed up against the reflective wall and slid down the smooth, cold surface.  

"Just relax," she whispered, trying to talk to herself.  "This is all just a bad dream.  Or a drug trip.  You...you--"

Perry suddenly burst into tears as the revelation hit her.  She was dead.  She'd seen the other side.  And she ran from the light at the end of the tunnel.  Now she was back.  She'd seen the other side of the dark and--

Perry turned to the side and threw up again.  She was suddenly very aware of the ache in her stomach.  She stood and went over to the mortician's desk, hoping to get some answers there.  It was Friday according to the desk calendar.  She'd been hit on Tuesday.  So Perry was probably hungry.  She pulled a mortician's jacket off the wall, tying it tight around her waist with the mortician's belt.  She wandered around a little until she found an area marked break room.  She opened the fridge and was relieved the find a large container of pasta with meat.  She heated the whole thing in the microwave and sat at the table, waiting.  

Flexing her fingers, Parry noticed they still felt stiff.  How long does it take rigor mortis to wear off? Perry wondered, but realized the case probably didn't happen often enough.  She needed help.  

She ran through her friends and tried to think of who could help her.  She considered going to her parents, but thought they might just panic in the end.  If she were dead, they wouldn't take the news very well.  Her little sister would take it worse.  

"What about Abby?"  Perry thought aloud.  "No, she'd just scream.  Leslie might help...no she wouldn't.  She'd be practical.  She'd want to solve it practically and then nothing would get done."

Perry thought for a little bit.  Her usual group of friends wouldn't be of much help in the end.  The timer on the microwave went off and Perry opened the door quickly.  She grabbed a handful of the pasta and unceremoniously shoveled the food into her mouth.  Perry got up, still chewing, and went over to the drawers, searching out a fork.  When she found one, she put another mound of pasta in her mouth.  She chewed and thought some more, trying think.  She ate some more pasta and sighed.  The food was a relief and was taking the edge off her stomach pain.  Still, Perry felt a hint of guilt at eating some poor worker's lunch.  She wiped her face on the back of her hand.  

"Clothes," Perry sighed.  "I need clothes."

Standing, Perry made her way through the morgue.  Maybe there was a locker room or something.  Did morticians change clothes?  Or just wear a lab coat over their clothing.  

Strange the things you think about after you've been dead, Perry wondered running her finger down the seam of the lab coat.  

Perry found a locker room, but there wasn't much in the lockers.  One had a button up shirt that she was able to fit around her waist and another locker had some old jeans.  She kept the lab coat and the belt.  There were a pair of heavy rubber boots that were about three sizes to big, but Perry slipped them on all the same.  She made her way toward the exit and stepped outside.
