Since I started making hats, I have been entranced at all the flowers I can use. Here you have a factory tour of flowers for fashion from an old company in the garment district of New York City. These are the kind of flowers that make me want to buy one and create a hat that was worthy of it. Brooklyn Army Terminal, 1949 📸 Andreas Feininger Designed by Woolworth Building architect Cass Gilbert and opened in 1919, the 95-acre Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park was one of the largest concrete structures in the world. The complex opened at the conclusion of World War I and used for various purposes over the years including a military prison and storage space for alcohol and drugs during Prohibition. During World War II it was the largest military supply base in the country. And the award for best new facade goes to... The facade of 111 West 57th Street, the world slenderest skyscraper, consists of layers of intricate terra cotta pilasters and inlaid bronze filigree cladding on east and west elevations. Show and Tell: At one of last weekend’s Open House New York tours of new art in subway stations on the F line in Brooklyn, artists Jackie Battenfield (Avenue P) and Lisa Sigal (Avenue N) discussed their work with an enthusiastic OHNY group. Also seen on the tour were Kambui Olujimi (Avenue I) and Leslie Wayne’s (Bay Pkwy) beautiful laminated glass installations.
