Drab-let series (Guess it, pick next) – “Smooth Sailing”
For/from @oh-punky. She gave me leeway of 100-200 words. This one took way longer than I expected and I’m happy to be back on track. First to name the episode gets to pick the next one I write about, ought-to be an easy one.
“All of these years and I finally got to marry off a couple.” She shakes her head in disbelief.
“Good things come to those who wait.”
“Indeed they do.” She clinks her glass with his and takes a thoughtful sip. “Speaking of waiting, two years and we’ll be home Chakotay. It’s almost too good to be true.”
“It’ll be smooth sailing from here,” he reassures.
“You honestly believe that? After all we’ve encountered out here, you believe we’ll sail into port on a strong tailwind.”
Hand on her back he gently guides her away from the remaining crowd.
“I do. And then you’ll have another wedding to attend,” he reminds.
She can’t help but smile at him.
“Getting a bit ahead of ourselves, aren’t we?”
“Never. You did agree, and a captain -“
“Honors her commitments,” she finishes.
“Speaking of commitments, I believe yours is finished here….”
Her eyes sparkle at the insinuation. “I like the way you think.” She grabs a fresh glass of champagne on their way out and trips on the carpet.
“Maybe you’ve had enough,” he teases. She rolls her eyes at the insinuation but fails to notice the floor is buckling with their every step.
