“Reform UK’s climate denial undermines democracy." – London School of Economics. (17/06/24
Nigel Farage is “incredibly popular” because he speaks "common sense" says Reform candidate Robert Barrowcliffe.
Let's examine that statement a little closer, not by looking at Farage’s anti-immigration policies, his war against woke, or his Brexit credentials. Instead lets look at climate change and how Nigel Farage plans to protect us.
Only an idiot would argue the climate isn’t changing. That is now a given for all sensible people. From the 1300 who died during the annual Hajj in Saudi Arabia last week, where temperatures were 50 degrees Celsius, to the severe flooding across Europe this month where 120 people died and hundreds more are unaccounted for, the effects of climate change are all around us.
The Met Office says:
“Across the UK, we expect to see:
Warmer and wetter winters
Hotter and drier summers
More frequent and intense weather extremes
Globally things are even worse.
“UN chief says world is on ‘highway to climate hell’ as planet endures 12 straight months of unprecedented heat." (CNN: 06/05/24)
As food and water supplies fail across Africa, huge swathes of people will be forced to migrate as a matter of life or death, and the majority will be heading for the rich countries of Europe, including Britain.
What does Nigel Farage and his Reform UK Party propose to do to help us adapt and survive these new changes to our environment? The first thing of note is that “climate change” is not mentioned once in the Reform manifesto and neither is “global warming”. It’s as if the problem doesn’t even exist!
More concerned with saving money, than saving the planet, Farage promises to “scrap” subsidies for renewable energy development, to “fast-track” more licences for North Sea gas and oil extraction and to begin fracking.
When the tide of immigration to the UK becomes overwhelming, when peoples homes are flooded again and again, when the old and frail are dying of heat stroke let's remember the "common sense" attitude of Nigel Farage and the billionaire backers of his Reform UK Party and give them the popularity they deserve.
“NO MORE DRILLING on federal lands,” said former vice president, Delaware senator, and presidential candidate Joe Biden in March 2020. Debating his then-competitor Bernie Sanders on CNN, Biden urged: “No more drilling, including offshore, no ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period.”
On July 1, President Joe Biden’s administration put out a new draft plan to open up oil and gas drilling leases in the federal waters off the coast of Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico. Released on the Friday before the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the plan represents a direct reversal not just from Biden’s campaign promises, but also from his earliest policies as president. On his first day in office, Biden issued a moratorium on such leases, barring the Department of Interior from issuing new permits on federal lands. (The moratorium did nothing to stop drilling under existing permits — which many major fossil companies had preemptively stockpiled.) In April, the administration announced that it would resume selling new permits, and under the draft plan released Friday, the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska coast would be among the approved sites.

‘They’re destroying us’: Indigenous communities fear toxic leaks from Canada oil industry
Recent leaks from oil sands tailings ponds have contaminated water, sowing mistrust among local First Nations people
“In May, Calgary-based Imperial Oil notified Alberta’s energy regulator it had discovered discoloured water near its Kearl oil sands project. The regulator soon concluded the water had come from tailings ponds where the company stored the toxic sludge-like byproducts of bitumen mining. Environmental samples showed high levels of several toxic contaminants, including arsenic, iron, sulphate and hydrocarbon – all of which exceeded provincial guidelines.
“But the company failed to notify the federal government and nearby Indigenous communities. In February, there was another leak, in which 5.3m litres of tailings water escaped from an overflowing catchment pond. This time, the community was informed two days later …
“For residents who are forced to live in fear about the water they can’t drink or the food that could be tainted, environmental justice remains elusive.
“‘We’re not talking about compensation. I don’t want compensation. I want them off our traditional land. This is Treaty 8 territory, where my great-uncle signed that treaty. They’re using our land, and they’re destroying us,’ said Rigney. ‘This is a battle worth fighting for. I can’t say I see the light at the end of the tunnel. But as long as I have a voice, I will keep speaking.’”

Louisiana is finalizing a plan to move thousands of people from areas threatened by the rising Gulf of Mexico, effectively declaring uninhabitable a coastal area larger than Delaware.
A draft of the plan, the most aggressive response to climate-linked flooding in the U.S., calls for prohibitions on building new homes in high-risk areas, buyouts of homeowners who live there now and hikes in taxes on those who won’t leave. Commercial development would still be allowed, but developers would need to put up bonds to pay for those buildings’ eventual demolition.
The draft plan, a portion of which was obtained by Bloomberg News, is part of a state initiative funded by the federal government to help Louisiana plan for the effects of coastal erosion. That erosion is happening faster in Louisiana than anywhere in the U.S., due to a mix of rising seas and sinking land caused in part by oil and gas extraction. State officials say they hope the program, called Louisiana Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments, or LA SAFE, becomes a model for coastal areas around the country and the world threatened by climate change.
While the state hasn’t come up with a cost estimate, the buyouts and resettlement could add up to billions of dollars. The federal grant for the initial phase cost $40 million.
The LA SAFE program defines as “high risk” land where, five decades from now, the expected depth of a 100-year flood will reach more than six feet. According to data provided by state officials, 94 percent of the land in Plaquemines Parish, which includes Empire, falls into that category.
