When I was eleven, we went to hawai'i for the weekend. I was too scared to go parasailing, I was scared to step on an urchin in the ocean, I was taken to shore by a sea turtle (i later learned it was illegal to touch wildlife oops), my brother opted to stay in the hotel room playing PS2 the entire time, and we saw way too many ABC stores. I think that was the last family vacation that didn't involve going to see other relatives.

The first time I was genuinely asked out, it was three weeks into my sophomore year, I was fifteen. This guy micah took me aside from our friend group during lunch, and said he really liked me and wanted to be my boyfriend. I said that I didn't know him that well, and that I wasn't allowed to date until I turned 18 (true). He said it was ok and that he was ok with being friends and trying again at 18. funnily enough when i confessed feelings for him a year later he responded with "i kind of want a girlfriend now, sorry". By senior year I was with someone else and he was not respecting boundaries and being fucking dramatic and obsessive and I felt very unsafe. Three days before graduation he blew up in my face in front of a bunch of people and stormed out, because I had stopped talking to him. Fuck that asshole.

At first I was afraid, I was petrified. But now I’m here and it’s paradise.

Any phone is better than no phone, but yeah it’s getting p dilapidated and I’m ready to update. It restarts randomly and can’t hold a charge, which is difficult when your job requires you to be somewhat on call and your parents are neurotic.

An art museum. Typically zoos have far too many kids screaming and crying who don’t realize the magic of zoos, which are amazing. Art museums are quiet and peaceful and you can gape at objects instead of living things. Also I’m a sucker for art history soooooooo

A few days ago, a friend who is moving across the country texted me, “Two days ago did you feel my spirit call out to yours?” I had, and asked her about. “We were in the deserts of Moab, Utah, and I was restless so I slept on the roof. I was going through some bad stuff. Then I thought about what a loving presence you are and imagined you were there, too, and I was able to work through some stuff. I felt close to your spirit, in a not-creepy way.” I texted her a heartfelt and supportive message and realized how fucking much I meant every word I sent. There were waterworks.

It’s doing alright. Trying to keep from pulling, it’s finally long enough to style for the first time since age 6. I can put it up at work and while it’s still thin, I get compliments. I also recently dyed it dark purple which is acceptable and interesting and also cheap.

Probably some time today when I will yet again have to reassure my mother that I love her even though I don’t want to be home anymore.
