Ok but writing advice: said is NOT dead! Don't be afraid to use the word "said". It's good! It's the best! It's your friend so cherish it and be proud of it! Replacing the word said with a bunch of other words is not as natural and it sounds strange and most editors will tell you that being afraid to use "said" in your writing is the sign of an amateur writer. Said is awesome!

#writing #just putting my two penny worth #take it from someone who got used to using 10 million alternatives to the word said because of tumblr 'writing resource' posts #and because not using the word 'said' is common in fanfiction #and then had to consciously learn how to revert back to using the word said in my writing for university #my creative writing lecturer told us that the 'said is dead' mentality instantly marks you as an amateur #and pro tip: a million book editors and writers make youtube videos about ACTUAL writing tips #and one of the things they all mention is the 'said is NOT dead' thing #so yeah 'murmured' and 'countered' and 'shrilled' are all cool but use them sparingly or they won't have the same effect #and if you want to use something other than said use words that make sense #you can't 'gasp' a whole sentence or other stuff like that #okay. cool #Bianca out
