"The Dairy Boy" While driving through Okemah, Oklahoma I happened to pass by a very interesting little restaurant. The sign and design were striking. The sign was beautiful and the paint on the building was still vivid. So, I stopped and decided to have a chat with the employees. Talking with the employees and doing some research online allowed me to find some pretty cool info. The Dairy Boy franchise was established sometime in the late 1950s or early 60s. They had stores in Oklahoma City, Clinton, Fairview, Davenport, Del City, Minco, Okarchie, and Weatherford. I believe it all started in Lexington, Oklahoma though. (correct me if I'm wrong). The first Dairy Boy was opened and It was a hot spot for kids, highscoolers, adult men and women, and the elderly. A great place to get coffee in the mornings, a wonderful family diner, a perfect location for a first date, and the cool place to hangout during the weekend. Sadly, time took its toll like it always does. In 2015 the Dairy Boy was removed from Lexington. I believe this one here in Okemah and one in Minco are the only two left. One interesting bit of information I found out from one of the employees was that the owner of the Dairy Boy in Okemah had the sign from Lexington restored and repainted and is the one pictured here. I thought that was pretty awesome and a great tribute to the Lexington store that has given so many great memories to do so many people. #okemah #okemahoklahoma #okemahok #okfuskee #okfuskeecounty #okhistory #oklahomahistory #OklahomaCity #okc #Clintonok #Clintonok #clintonoklahoma #fairview #fairviewok #fairviewoklahoma #davenport #davenportok #davenportoklahoma #DelCity #DelCityOklahoma #delcityok #minco #mincook #mincooklahoma #okarchie #okarchieok #weatherford #weatherfordok #weatherfordoklahoma (at Okemah, Oklahoma) https://www.instagram.com/p/BydBww-BpLl/?igshid=to1vjp7fbxmr
