Putting aside how Victor was filled with self-loathing for something he toiled over so much, I think people miss the point. The problem was never playing god. I think playing god is even necessary to some extent. Any kind of creation, invention is playing god. Art is playing god, medicine is playing god. In fact if you're angry at god for god's design I think you should play god every once in a while to improve it. But, what's the point if you're going to be the same wrathful, kindless god that made you ? What's the point if you repeat what you consider a mistake ? I think that's where Victor Frankenstein lost the plot. He was so busy being mad at god that he became it, he was literally treating him the same way his father treated him. Playing god is okay as long as you don't kill your humanity. It's okay as long as you're being humane about it. His mistake wasn't making 'the creature ' . Maybe rebellious, sacrilegious, blasphemous. But never a mistake. His mistake was to treat 'the creature ' as a mistake instead of kindness and understanding.
