When should you start using Anti-Aging products?

Today’s post is inspired by a recent story from a conversation I overheard earlier this week at the Women’s Shower of my gym :) No I was not eavesdropping (I promise) but there are things that you just can’t help overhear.

So there were 2 fairly young ladies talking about an upcoming sale from an online shopping site and one of the girls mentioned a certain Anti-Aging Skin care product that will be dropping price when this sale happens. The other girl said she doesn’t need it as she is only 22 and that anti-aging products should be used by women in their 30s.

And it made me wonder, what really is the right age to start investing on Anti-Aging products? But then again, we have to look deeper and understand, what causes skin aging to begin with and the number 1 answer to that is UV (Ultraviolet Radiation). 

So when it comes to fighting this number 1 source of skin aging, start very young. Remember, the damage caused by the Sun to our skin is irreversible so Mommies, do your kids a favor and introduce your kids to the habit of putting on sunblock whenever they go out of the sun.

Other causes of aging are Free Radicals and Lifestyle which is this big umbrella where stress, food intake, sleep hours etc. are all under. These things can bring dryness, dullness, wrinkles/sags, hyper-pigmentation etc to our skin which are all signs of skin aging.

The common misconception about anti-aging products is that it should only be used if signs have start showing. This is a wrong mind-set and I wish someone from my younger years told me this too. The main purpose of anti-aging products is to delay aging signs from showing so the aging signs shouldn’t even be present to begin with. There are really great products that reduces aging signs that are already present in your skin but do you really want to wait for those signs to appear before you start putting on that cream? I would say start as early as 18.

One of the best anti-aging products that I swear by is the Olay Total Effects 7in1 Day Cream with SPF 15. It’s a creamy moisturizer that has green tea, niacinamide and other vitamins which are well known anti-aging complex.

I have been using it for almost 2 years now and I have no plans on stopping. This is the product that has got me obsessed with skincare. I remember exactly the first few times I used it and I was so amazed with what it did to my skin. Even my co-workers noticed how my skin looked brighter, more youthful and healthier. I also like that it has SPF 15 and because I don’t normally go out of the sun, I didn’t have the need to apply more sunblock. The product works like a moisturizer and primer combined. It’s fast absorbing and I apply it daily after I shower in the morning and before I put on any makeup. In fact, I came to the point that the effects gave me enough confidence that most of the time, I no longer feel the need to put on makeup for work. Although it’s a little bit pricey for some (It’s at Php 799 per 50g bottle), one bottle can last you a month if used daily and just by looking at the effects, it’s totally worth it 😊

Some people say that the effect of this product wears off over time. I totally disagree. It may just feel like it doesn’t work anymore coz you’ve been used to how your skin looks great with it. I know this coz I stopped using this for a month and I noticed how my skin looked less bright.

This product never caused me any irritation but if you have sensitive skin just make sure you don’t use it together with a product that do not work well with Niacinamide such as Vitamin C. So best to use the products at alternate days or alternate times of the day :)

This product does wonder and I highly recommend this to men (yes, men should use anti-aging products too) and women who are entering “adulthood” 😊

I don't usually do this, but I started using Olay Total Effects about 2 weeks ago. This stuff has blew my expectations out of the water. My skin feels better and has a natural glow to it now.
