A rainbow touches an ancient gate in Beijing

1. Crab soup dumpling. Yes, that is a dumpling. Yes, there is a straw in said dumpling. You can drink the soup in the dumpling and then eat the wrapper afterwards. It was crabby and delicious. 

2. Milk cheese. An interesting sort of yogurt/thin pudding type of dessert made of milk. It’s very hard to explain the taste and texture but it was sort of sour and almost had the texture of silky tofu. I got mine topped with red beans (underneath), watermelon, and mango. I’m glad to have tried it but I can’t say it’s been my favorite Beijing treat.

I’ve never been to a more quiet place in Beijing in my whole year of living here. People/families live in these homes that are older than my country of origin.

Things you can find in an old hutong in Beijing: traditional boats floating down the river and T-Rex heads. You know, the usual stuff.

Shichahai is a famous hutong in Beijing where you can get traditional Beijing snacks, trinkets, and check out the night life with dozens of bars along the left hand side of the river. I mostly hung out around the snacks and shops but it was such an cool place. This is the China that I signed up for.
