1. Crab soup dumpling. Yes, that is a dumpling. Yes, there is a straw in said dumpling. You can drink the soup in the dumpling and then eat the wrapper afterwards. It was crabby and delicious.
2. Milk cheese. An interesting sort of yogurt/thin pudding type of dessert made of milk. It’s very hard to explain the taste and texture but it was sort of sour and almost had the texture of silky tofu. I got mine topped with red beans (underneath), watermelon, and mango. I’m glad to have tried it but I can’t say it’s been my favorite Beijing treat.

Ambulances randomly parked all over Shichahai.
I’ve never been to a more quiet place in Beijing in my whole year of living here. People/families live in these homes that are older than my country of origin.
Day 9, a Friday, and I'm approaching the end of this trip. After a sleep in, some yoga and coffee at Base, I jumped on the bicycle for one last hurrah around Shichahai. I stopped to sit and chat with a swimming unkle who asked how the outside world saw China's military build-up. In the evening I met my old colleague Henry who is still doing an amazing job at Jagermeister China. We met at his hotel in Chaoyang and had one more Beijing duck meal for good measure (this one was slightly more oily, which is only appropriate for a Shanghainese friend):
After dinner, we hit Solo and caught up on ten years of growth and office politics of Jager in China, as well as some of the ways that netizens show their derision of official pronouncements without getting censored:
From there it was over to Dada for the fourth and final time, and I made it count!
The owner Michael even presented me with a participation trophy :)

From Nanjing to Beijing, from humid heat to dry heat, the evening glow only seems a bit clearer. By 9 PM, the heat finally starts to dissipate, but Shichahai is still teeming with people. Bars targeting solo travelers are still rampant in their efforts to attract customers. I suddenly discover that the photos posted on Ingress at Yinding Bridge portal were actually taken by me years ago. It’s…
