Kapi is getting so old now (11 next month!) and with that comes so much more supervision.

Some days he’s ok, some days he’s not as good and falls over a lot. Spent an hour today cleaning his butt and paws and brushing out kinks in his fur as well as stretching out his hind legs and giving them a little bit of a massage.

We give him joint supplements daily, treat him with a lot of pellets to help him keep some weight on and make sure he poops normally (which he has been!), sprinkle the hay with herbs that smell so good so he can forage. We try to feed him fresh greens regularly so he doesn’t overdrink (we switched from bowls back to a water bottle because he dunks his face and bowls now), but it’s such a fine line to walk with just enough greens to make sure he’s well hydrated to too many greens he gets squishy poops. We have 3 litterboxes, 2 of them low-entry for him, but we also lined most of the area with a playmat that’s easily washable because he pees and leaks a lot outside of the litterboxes, which only really started a few months ago.

We have a vet appointment in a couple weeks for him for a follow-up checkup and we’re asking him to get tested for e. cuniculi so that hopefully we can get him on something to help with whatever is happening (if it’s more than just old age!). Kylo did test positive for e.cuniculi earlier this year, but his symptoms somehow magically disappeared after being on metacam for a week, so it’s possible both of them have it and Kapi just hasn’t been showing symptoms until now (a couple months ago).
