First of a series! Gammel dansk hønsehund, or the old Danish Pointer, orriginated in the 1710's from breeding farmdogs with spanish pointers. It nearly died out as changing hunting methods made english pointers more apealing, but made a comeback during ww2.
Number 206, the Old Danish Pointer.
The only Scandinavian pointer arose in the early eighteenth century by breeding dogs of travelling romani people with local farm dogs.
The romani people's dogs, which probably had a touch of the Spanish pointers, were sturdy and used as hunting dogs as well as draught and pack animals. The farm dogs were hounds of a type from which the bloodhound descends. -Nordic Kennel Union
