Jack had waited. 

It was the morning of the next day, and Old Hills still hadn’t replied. He slumped down in defeat, watching the clouds crawl across the golden sky. 

Falling silent. 

Spirits were falling silent. What did that mean?

Was it like he thought and the humans who were spreading across the world without a second thought of anything or everyone else to blame? 

But why would a land spirit die when man steps on it? Old Hills was more ancient and powerful than them… they should not affect Old Hills. 

He was lying on a spirit’s carcass. Jack sat up, shivering. 

“Old Hills?” 

The buffalo returned, and Jack squinted towards where the travelers walked through. He couldn’t see them anymore, and the animals returned. 

“Old Hills?” 

The Moon was still out. Jack looked up to him with a pleading face. 

“Please,” he begged, “please don’t let Old Hills fall silent.” 

The Moon was quiet. Jack wondered if he’d died too, but he sensed the Moon too strongly for him to be dead. 

Sometimes Jack hated the Moon. Then Jack would feel guilty about hating him. 

However the Moon created Jack, but he wouldn’t save Old Hills. Jack wished he would. 

The world is changing. 

How drastic would that change be? How many spirits were falling silent? Why was Jack the exception? Why did the Moon create him when everyone else was dying? 

Jack shivered, feeling cold for the first time in his life. 

He needed to leave. 

Electricity flew through him, a feeling that left his ears muffled and ringing. Jack stood up, and then shakily leaned on his staff for support. 

His head felt like cotton was stuffed inside, and his eyes were heavy like coins were resting on them.

He needed to leave. 

He flew up, running from the hill, running from the approaching travelers who now had guns. The first buffalo fell. 

He sped off, disoriented, allowing the Wind to take control.

A Festival?

“Are you going to the festival?” Ardri looked up in shock. A selkie maid stood before him, her sealskin dangling from her hand, a smile on her face. “What festival?” Ardri asked, confused. “I have heard of none.” The selkie laughed. “The Festival at Silvamune. They hold a great festival every year for some human that they once revered. Everyone from all around is invited. Its not too far from here. Just a few miles down these shores and then you’ll find a path that leads inland to the old hills. You should come.” She blew Ardri a kiss, then laughed as he blushed and she threw on her coat and leaped into the waves. Up again she sprang in seal form, playing and jumping in the water before swimming away.

A very important and interesting question

In brief: campaign setting or campaign of adventures? Until this morning I had no doubts. But ENworld always suggests valuable reflections... Considering how peculiar The Genesis will be, it could be a better choice structuring it as a campaign of adventures, with mandatory pregens and a fixed structure (something like two adventures per region plus final showdown in the old hills). Definetely something to think seriously about.
