On April 13, 1881 Billy the Kid was sentenced by Judge Warren Bristol in Mesilla to hang, with his execution scheduled for May 13.

A real luminaria (sand & a votive candle in a paper sack) on the plaza up in Old Mesilla, NM tonight as a mariachi conjunto with added folk harp are playing Christmas songs and carols.

I think I just finally actually found my “Christmas spirit” this year. Better late than never.

(Real luminarias are now illegal in my city; you can only have the “UL-approved” electric ones nowadays.)

The bandstand, musicians, Christmas tree, and folks on the plaza in Old Mesilla, NM with the minor basilica of San Albino in the background. The church bells just rang for the consecration of the host during Mass.

Yep, it’s Christmas and I’m finally feeling it.
