A judge found Yoon Suk Yeol guilty of obstructing justice by blocking investigators from detaining him.
Former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol has been sentenced to five years in prison for obstructing justice and other crimes linked to his disastrous martial law declaration in 2024. It is the first in a series of verdicts for the disgraced ex-leader, whose brief suspension of civilian rule lasted just six hours, with lawmakers voting it down despite him ordering soldiers to storm parliament to stop them. Yoon was subsequently impeached by parliament and resisted arrest for weeks, holed up in his guarded residence until he was finally detained in January last year. He faces multiple trials for actions taken during the failed declaration and the turmoil that followed. At Seoul’s Central District Court, judge Baek Dae-hyun said he found Yoon guilty of obstruction of justice by blocking investigators from detaining him. Yoon was also found guilty of excluding cabinet members from a martial law planning meeting. “Despite having a duty, above all others, to uphold the Constitution and observe the rule of law as president, the defendant instead displayed an attitude that disregarded the… Constitution,” Baek said. “The defendant’s culpability is extremely grave.”

FARGO (KFGO) After seven hours of testimony, victim impact statements, and arguments by the prosecution and defense, a federal judge sentenced Ray Holmberg to 10 years in prison for traveling overseas to have sex with underage boys.
Judge Daniel Hovland went well over the recommended guidelines of 37-46 months and sentenced Holmberg to 120 months. Prosecutors and the defense agreed that Holmberg should serve about three years due to his age and poor health.
Holmberg pleaded guilty to the charges in August.
Hovland said Wednesday Holmberg is still a threat to underage boys, and a 37-month sentence would not be a deterrent to others. The 81-year-old Holmberg would also have to serve 10 years of supervised release after his prison sentence is up.
Holmberg, shackled at the hands and feet and wearing an orange Cass County Jail jumpsuit, apologized to the victims. He said he’s had time to reflect while in the Sherburne County jail where he said he’s joined therapy groups.
