Famous Movement Detroit after-party at Old Miami cancelled

The long running ‘Need I Say More’ party at Old Miami put on by Seth Troxler and Visionquest will not take place this year. Details behind the cancellation are sparse however Troxler posted on Instagram that it appeared both the venue and djs wanted the event to happen.

Dear Friends, Despite our best efforts and for reasons beyond the control of ourselves and the venue, it is with our deepest regrets to announce that NeedISayMore held at The Old Miami has been cancelled. It seems like only yesterday when we threw the first Need I Say More on the back patio at Agave 13 years ago. A year later we relocated to the now legendary Old Miami where the party took on a whole new meaning and grew to an amazing capacity. Times have changed, we have all changed. We have loved, we have lost, We have discovered the Beauty and hardships of life. The city of Detroit has maybe taken the greatest leap of change. something that we must welcome even in the pain of loss. We would like to thank all of you who have attended our celebration of life and freedom over all these years. Thank you to all the DJs who have provided the soundtrack to some of the greatest moments of these past 12 years. In the words of Don Shlitz "Know when to hold um, know when to fold um, know when to walk away, know when to run” Thank you for the memories, as fondness never fades. The Old Miami is a bar for the misunderstood. Its name isn't a reference to Florida...that would be weird, since the bar is located in Detroit's infamous (but rapidly gentrifying) Cass Corridor. "Miami" is an acronym standing for "missing in action Michigan," Uncle Sam's shorthand for the local boys who never made it back from Vietnam. 

The Old Miami is a hangout for their brothers, their friends and their favorite musicians. Actually, the bar's name could just as easily refer to the lengthy and now-legendary absence of Sixto Rodriguez, the philosophy student-turned-protest singer who got screwed over by Sussex Records and absconded from the music scene, turning up only occasionally to run for public office. 

Coincidentally, the Old Miami was established right about the time that Rodriguez was (unknown to him) becoming a superstar in South Africa. Four years after his second failure to get on the ballot for mayor, he found himself on the Internet, and discovered that he had been a platinum-selling rock legend for the past 18 years. 

Despite a nearly nonstop touring schedule, Rodriguez hasn't lost his fire to work for the working man. He ran again for mayor in 2013; the Old Miami led the charge in collecting signatures to get him on the ballot. (They also sold tshirts that read "Viva Sixto!" and "We Want a Philosopher King"--somebody *please* tell me if you know where I can get one of those shirts.)

Some might call his campaign unsuccessful. Rodriguez, as you might expect, doesn't see it that way: 

"The thing is, it's a struggle, and it's continuing. But I think that we are ready to struggle."
