“Maddie, did you know you’re an OLD PIZZA??” 🍕
Week old pizza?
Ayden eating pizza: “It’s only a week old”
How to Revitalize Day Old Pizza in a Microwave
1. Make sure you really want that pizza. If the pie has been sitting in your fridge for a few days it may not be worth saving, especially if it wasn’t stored properly. Consider the topping too--are you dealing with straight up cheese or confronted with meat or vegetables. In some cases you may want to remove the toppings (if possible) before the initial microwaving pass or even altogether (and just eat it as a cheese pizza).
2. Locate a microwave safe plate to hold your pizza. Avoid reheating the pizza in plastic Tupperware in the microwave and opt for glass or ceramic. The chemicals found in plastic can produce toxins when heated so opt for glass or ceramic. You could also use a paper plate as long as it hasn't been coated with any type of plastic-based sealant.
Break down full pies into sections for heating. If you want to heat an entire pizza, heat pieces two or three at a time for better heating coverage. You may want to use one plate for heating the pizza and then transfer the heated pieces to a separate plate for serving/eating.
3. Find a ceramic or glass mug. That’s right-- you will be heating a cup of water along with your pizza to create that chewy crust (the secret). Use only a microwave safe mug and find one that will easily fit inside your microwave with the plate you’ve chosen.
If the plate you chose doesn’t not accommodate the mug, select a smaller plate or possibly mug so everything fits.
4. Fill mug with 2/3 water. Instead of filling the mug to the top, allow some room in the event the water comes to a boil. You don’t want the water to boil over and possibly spill on your pizza.
5. Heat the pizza on its plate and mug with water inside the microwave for approximately 30 seconds. Instead of blasting the pizza on high, for at least a minute, heat it in steps to achieve the desired result.
6. Check pizza after 30 seconds to see if it’s fully heated and return to the microwave for an additional 30 seconds if it still needs more time. Don’t forget to include the mug of water.
