Only War - an odyssey into 5th Edition 40k

So a little over a year ago, a group of friends and I started to get back into Warhammer 40,000 - specifically the old 5th Edition rules. We agreed that was the rules we all enjoyed the most and found easiest to pick back up and being older, wasn't being updated more frequently than we were playing games. Personal preferences aside, that was something we all found as deterrent to trying to learn new versions of the game and most of the current range or our existing collections covers the 5th edition factions well enough.

To further ease people back in, I began fixing up existing armies and building new ones that our group could use as 'rental armies'. Giving our players a way to learn 5e with a pre-built army or to trial things they might want to buy themselves.

Over the last year, our quiet little 6-person days have swelled to an average of 16 players. And as the group has grown and become mor invested, we've even begun home-brewing rules for units and factions that either never had rules in 5e or were introduced later. In time, I'd love to show some of that off here as I'm more than a little proud of what my friend and I have come up with so far!

This is just a random story but... my husband got me a golden retriever for this year’s valentines, my mind immediately went to Tony in SHITWP 🥺 and ever since my puppy arrived I have been wanting to reread SHITWP but then I find out about Old Rules and reading that Tony made a come back made my whole week, I just love his dynamic with Mickey and his complicit bond with Ian too ♥️

I also had an idea of a one shot where Ian gave Mickey a puppy when they were together and the puppy grew with them and their relationship until Ian and Mickey break up and the puppy plays a huge role in them getting back together, they would run into Ian at the park and the puppy would get all excited and would try to pull Ian into come back home with them, then one day Ian would be running errands and would see the puppy walking down the street alone and wonder where Mickey is until he realizes the puppy is in fact lost so he would take it back to Mickey’s place and find out Mickey was losing it because he lost the puppy and that would be the begging of them connecting and getting back together ( it’s obviously vague hahah and I’m not a writer at all so I most likely won’t write it) but my point with all of this is that I think my random puppy idea is coming true through Old Rules and I’m living cause I can totally see Tony and Carrie being on a mission if Ian and Mickey fight or have a break from each other 🥺

Sorry if you’ve answered this but do you have an idea of how many chapters old rules will be? It’s one of the highlights of my week and I feel like I need to prepare for when it’s over 😂

Phew, not a clue. I know I'm past the halfway point, but I don't know how far past it.

I usually realize when they're about 4 or 5 chapters to go. Once I figure it out, I'll send up a flare.
