Uhhhh....

I hate it when my mom is being sexist yet she says she isn't sexist. Just a few minutes ago she told me I should clean the bathroom instead of my brother because I am a girl. She went on to say that girls and boys are just meant for certain roles. *cue the eye roll* I know she grew up with different views and values but it still annoys me just the same.

my mom always forces traditional female roles on me, like serving men, making sure they're happy, putting their wishes, needs, and desires before my priorities. basically she pushes me to be a doormat for males. i feel so disgusted w/ myself for doing what she says and she gives me death glares when i don't conform. i want to kill myself. she treats her sons like gods, and me like rubbish. i'm tired of her spoiled sons and i want equality. what do i do? thank you so much in advance

You’re mother may be content living like that, but you don’t have to stand for it at all. We live in 2014, not 1950. Maybe your mom was raised to believe that was how all men should be treated, and women are the people to be seen and not heard, but you do not need to stand for it. To be honest, I find that sexist. You really need to talk to someone about this. Have you tried talking to one of your brothers? Next time she tries to make you conform with him around he might even stick up for you. It may be a long shot if you don’t get along with your brothers. But it might be worth trying. I see where your Mom is coming from in the sense that women were expected to act like that a while ago. But not now. Not in 2014. This will all work out. Talk to one of your brothers, as they may be able to help you out by standing up for you when she starts to treat you badly.

You might be offended iuno, thats not my intention.

I honestly have no problem with many old fashioned values. I mean in terms of hetrosexual relationships, I have no problem with the concept of a man providing for a woman, working and earning the lifestyle, while a woman is there to have children and cook and clean and serve him, because he keeps her alive. It's probably a crazy thing to think because of the many many advances in women's rights that have been made in the last decades, but its just the way that I think and that I would have no problem living my life. If I could life off being a housewife and doing everything to make a man happy, I would. To me, thats love.

I do appreciate the many things that women are now entitled to. My mother is a single mother and if she wasn't allowed to divorce my dad when she did, or work to provide for me and my sister all on her own, things would be a lot different for me. I appreciate that people have the desire and right to be anything they want,

but honestly,

I want to be a housewife.

I want children.

I want a perfect family.
