Dating disaster turns into storm of the century ...
Just bear with me guys I have no idea where this is going or what I am doing.
Brad was finishing up with his last client for the day when he heard the news come over the front office radio a there had been a boating accident between the ferry to the mainland and a local fishing boat. Brad sighed Mike was 8 hours into a 12-hour shift and being head ER Nurse of a small town hospital it meant he was going to be run off his feet.
Brad sighed there small town hospital was going to be overrun soon by a battalion of first responders, Brad trudged through the snow to his Jeep, turning the heater on as high as it could go, he was a son of California and Maine Winters were not what he was built for.
He drove the jeep slowly out of the hospital parking lot, fat globs of snow falling onto the windshield. Navigating the icy roads he pulled up in front of the Towns large well-stocked grocery store Bechers Rock may only be a small town but Gina and Poke had made sure their store carried everything and anything.
The chiming bell dinged as Brad entered the store, waving a hello to Gina as she served a customer Brad made his way back to the meat section spotting a familiar dark-haired shape at the meat counter
“Ray, Nate got you out doing the grocery shopping for once “ Brad grinned at his friend
Ray looked over and rolled his expressive brown eyes “Nates all in a fluster, they just put out a weather warning seems we have the storm of the century brewing and that means the mayor's office is all in a panic”
Nate, Ray’s partner was deputy Mayor and thanks to the incompetence of Mayor Schwiete Nate ended up handling a majority of the town's issues.
Ray held up the basket he was carrying “ Going to make up some sandwiches and take them to his doubt that he has stopped to eat “ Ray sighed a fond smile on his face.
It was at Ray’s insistence Brad had made the move from California to Bechers Rock , he had been free falling in a downward spiral since his breakup with his fiance on a spur of the moment decision he had packed his car and driven across country ending up here in this small Island community and strangely happy with his decision.
Mike, one of Nate’s best friend had offered Brad his spare room in the old shorefront house he lived in and Brad had moved in with the few belongings he had brought with him.
He found Mike's calm unflappable manner a soothing presence in total opposite to the manic energy of Ray and the studious intense manner of Nate, but all three had made Brad feel like he had made the right choice, weather aside that was.
Ray peered at Brad's empty basket “ You going to stock up for the storm?”
“I was just coming in to get the makings for soup, though I would have it made for Mike when he finishes his shift,” Brad grinned “The man would live on Eggos and coffee if we let him”
“Your right man he and Nate both have a pretty fucked up sense of nutrition, and they say I am the childish one “ Ray grinned as he spoke narrowing his eyes he looked at Brad “So how did the date go with what's his name “
“Ray please don’t go dragging my mood down,” sighing Brad realised that Ray would not let it go unless he gave him something “It was a disaster so I went home drank too much whisky and beat Mike at Halo”
“So the night was not a total disaster than “ Ray quipped
“Hey Brother, what can I get for you “ Pokes appeared from out of the freezer room
Brad rattled off his meat order and then went to the well-stocked shelves grabbing extra supplies just in case this storm was as bad as predicted.
Ray walked alongside talking a mile a minute Brad half hearing what Ray was saying
“I got a bad feeling about this storm Homes” Ray quietly said as Brad was looking at the selection of candles
“We have been through bad storms before Ray “ Brad answered while trying to decide how many candles.
Looking up Brad saw Ray”s face looking pinched and worried
“I know that Brad but this just feels weird, I cannot explain it something bad is gonna happen I feel it in my bones” Ray looked earnest
“Your Bones Ray, you're starting to sound like the Old Timers, you will be fine “ Brad tried to reason.
Brad left the store groceries safely packed in the back of his jeep he looked out at the grey harbour, massive storm clouds were building up out to see and Brad could see flashes of distant lightning.
Goose pimples rose on his body, Brad growled he was letting Ray’s paranoia get to him. Taking one last look at the Storm clouds Brad got into the jeep and headed home.
