Now I know you're all probably thinking, since when do you like any of these ships? I've always been a fan of them, but I never shared my ships because I was too deep in the BNHA fandom. But it's time I address something that has been bothering me for months.

Out of all the fandoms I've been in as a creator or a supporter, BNHA is the only fandom I have ever been involved in that I actively wish I hadn't joined. I have never made it any secret that I multi-ship or that I have several favorite ships. That's not even the biggest issue I have with the BNHA fandom. It's the literal fact that the fandom is overflowing with toxicity, harassment, hatred and bitterness. Heaven and Hell forbid you bring up actual character development or character analysis because suddenly you're insane for thinking about that. Or even better, you can't criticize or point out any of the flaws in the series without being accused of being angry because your favorite ship isn't canon. In my case, none and I do mean NONE of my ships are canon. Even the three ships I was holding out hope for... NOT CANON! Did I go around harassing people or making people feel horrible because they had different ships than me? Of course not. As a fan of BNHA, I am allowed to form my own opinions. It's OKAY to not like a character or to have a different opinion on a ship. But this fandom has a really big problem and it's called: SHIPPING. I am sick and tired of people coming out of the woodwork to attack each other just because they have different tastes in ships. For some reason, the top three BNHA ships: BKDK, KRBK and IzuOcha seem to have the most toxic communities and I'm sick of it. This is why I am going to die on my hill of ship and let ship in peace. At the end of the day, these are fictional characters. They're paper and ink. They're not real. Why are we fighting over which ship is better and which character is better anyway? I can't even have civil discussions about character growth or character lessons because this fandom is so damn obsessed with shipping. I've kept quiet for years, not sharing my opinions. I came into this fandom not because of my love for my favorite ships. I fell in love with BNHA BECAUSE of the characters, the symbolism, the imagery, the actual story itself intrigued me, and I wanted to see the characters grow. I wanted to see how their journeys would play out. Now it's like none of that matters. Day in and day out, it's always a damn argument about who Izuku should be with or Katsuki or Eijirou or Ochako or just anyone from Class 1A. Yes, there are relationships in the series that are genuinely written and portrayed better. Am I mad that none of my ships are canon? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a tad bit angry, especially when I thought at least two of them stood a decent chance of being canon: KamiJirou and KiriMina. Neither one is canon. When it comes to Izuku, if I had to ship him with a woman, I ship him with Melissa which puts me in the minority, and I am OKAY with that. But again, I multi-ship and I came into the series knowing full well that none of my other ships were going to be canon. As a matter of fact, I was hoping no ships would be canon so I could just carry on with my day and ship whoever the heck I wanted to ship. Like I said previously, I just miss the simpler times where people didn't care who you shipped. Everyone cared more about creating fanworks and making new connections but that's a thing of the past in this fandom. Bring back the fun in fandom. Please, I don't know where it went but it's severely lacking in this fandom.

Not Having A Great Time: Pretty Sure I'm Alone Thinking Like This (Part I)

You ever get the feeling that something is wrong with you? That's how I feel at the moment. Before I got involved in the BNHA fandom, I was actively out of fandom. Previously, I was in huge fandoms and some smaller but still well-known fandoms such as Sailor Moon, TMNT, Batman/Nightwing/DC, Transformers, Young Justice and Gundam. Though I know times have changed, back in the old days, you could totally get away with having straight ships, queer ships, rare pairs, crack ships and massive crossovers. All of that was celebrated. I'm talking about crossovers like Rise of the Guardians and Frozen, Sailor Moon and DBZ, GI Joe and Transformers, and even Full Metal Alchemist had a few crossovers too. The fans of those series all had different ships, different favorite characters, different head canons and different tastes but things were a lot calmer and more respectful. For instance, in the Sailor Moon fandom, everyone shipped Usagi with Mamoru, Diamond, Seiya or Haruka. She was also shipped with Rei too. Sure, sometimes people would argue about who was better for her, but Sailor Moon had so many different ships. It was hard to just pick one ship and stay in your lane. I say this knowing damn good and well I was a huge Haruka/Michiru shipper (still am actually), and I preferred the Inner Senshi with the Generals. If I had to pick an alternative ship for Mamoru, I liked him with Setsuna though I realized I was in the minority. The biggest issue I had with Usagi/Mamoru had nothing to do with their romance. It was more or less the fact that Usagi got everything: strongest person in the series, gets a love interest, gets to be queen, gets to marry said love interest and goes on to rule the universe and basically gets a happily ever while her friends don't. THAT always, always bugged me about the series. Why was she the only one who could be happy, but her friends couldn't? Inuyasha was another example where people literally had all kinds of shipping preferences. Kagome was shipped with Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Koga, Miroku and a few others and the fans argued constantly over who was better for Inuyasha. The biggest issue I saw when I was active in the Inuyasha fandom revolved around who was the better character/choice for Inuyasha: Kikyo or Kagome. Most of the shippers stuck to their preferred ship. Me personally, I didn't hate Inuyasha/Kagome as a ship. I had other ships to hold my attention like Miroku/Sango, Sesshoumaru/Kagura and for a time, I did enjoy Inuyasha/Sango. Once I got older, I was able to see why people preferred Inuyasha/Kikyo as a couple but that doesn't mean I hated Inuyasha/Kagome as a couple. Sure, Kagome got on my nerves but so did Inuyasha. Their romance took forever to go anywhere (though the little hints and clues were there) but at least I knew it was going somewhere. I'm glad I didn't waste time with the sequel though because it seems like a lot of people hated it which I'm not surprised. For some reason, sequels that rely too much on the next generation/new kids route tend to do poorly. Looking at you Boruto. I tried, Lord knows I tried so many times to give Boruto a chance. Both the anime and the manga before I dropped the series. I suppose maybe I'm just feeling my age lately, but I'm getting really sick of shipping wars, shipping discourse and top/bottom dynamics.
