Decided I wanted to restore and use the old door bolt I picked up a few weeks ago. I gently cut the old plate off the bolt so I could understand how it was built back in the day. I cut and fit a few of the new pieces that are needed. I have made wrenches on the plasma table before, but nothing anywhere near the size of these! The smallest was 4-1/8” and the largest was 12”. This is the cast iron stove I thought I'd use in my shop. But? Not enough there to keep it contained and cook on it. 😒 So. I'll have to sell it for parts and get something else. Or hook up one of my grain burners? lol Dang!!! That's it! But I'll still need something to cook on. 🤔 I'll figure something out. 😕 I did do a little more work to the shop today. But ran out of sunlight and had to feed the fish. I'll have to get back to it tomorrow. Very happy to be back at it. I can't stand it when I can't do stuff. Bugs the crap out of me. But it looks like I'll have the north side of the barn done on time. I know I'll have to put a support beam under that temporary flat roof. Because about all of them 2x4's are spliced so they will not hold real weight. It did hold me but I doubt it would hold a huge pile of snow on top. I will reinforce it and I think that'll work for a season. Well. I guess it's bed time. After a 3-day soak in 30% distilled vinegar, the old French hewing axe is almost rust free. The initial post about this piece was some months back and am just now getting to it. The eye and a couple deep pits are still full of rust. I brought out the big gun and am soaking it for another 24hours in @evapo_rust That should take care of the stubborn stuff. With some of the rust off, I can see were the eye was forge welded to the cheeks and how the edge was forge welded in. This will never make a return to timber frame construction, but it would be a crime to let it just rust into dust. So this small post-mounted hand drill followed me home from Swaptoberfest…. I saw it an thought, “I can clean that up and make a buck or two…” I started looking for the right place to mount it in the forge today. I guess I now forever own a new tool.
