This is believed to be the spot, under the foundations of this house, where Simon the Tanner lived & Peter resided with him. ”Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.” Acts 10:32
On his conquest of Canaan, Pharaoh Ramesses II invaded Joppa & built a large fort here. These gates stand at the exact spot of the entrance of Ramesses II fort.
In Joppa, St. Peter had the vision mentioned in Acts 10:11-16 “He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat. Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.”
St. Peter’s Church in Joppa was built to remember Peter’s ministry & faith for the salvation of the Gentiles. Around this area is where St. Peter would have lived 2000 years ago!
St. Peter came to Joppa as the Lord led him & he stayed in the home of Simon the Tanner. In Joppa, there were many healings & salvations including the healing of Tabitha. This is old Joppa & somewhere in this area Peter resided.
