Waxing Crescent

Here’s a moon with about 4.8% visibility. The location is Grand Traverse Bay, West Arm. The photographer is standing on Old Mission Peninsula looking across the bay at Leelanau Peninsula. This is all located in the northwest corner of Michigan’s lower peninsula.

Labor Day Aurora

Aurora Borealis as seen from Old Mission Peninsula, near Traverse City, Michigan. Grand Traverse Bay is in the middle distance with the aurora beyond.

Mission Point Light, the structure seen in the second image, was built in 1870, decommissioned in 1933 when an unmanned light was placed in the water two miles away.

Waxing Crescent. Grand Traverse Bay, West Arm

In these images one can view Venus, a waxing crescent (3.4% visibility), over the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay. This is not far from Traverse City, Michigan. Additionally, in the foreground, one can also see grapes for wine. The photographer was about in the middle (width as well as length) of Old Mission Peninsula.
