Spending Money for Food (ST)
This week has been very busy: QT and I had midterms this week. They're over now, and I can spend the time writing all the places we went to this week.
On Sunday, coming back to Davis, we decided to stop by Old Tea House for an evening snack. I got the salt and pepper chicken wings and the beef satay fried rice. Usually, I get the beef satay with the pan fried noodles, but I felt like eating fried rice, so I decided to get that instead. Of course, we both got drinks: I got my usual jasmine green milk tea, and QT got his honey green milk tea.
Their food is can get pretty inconsistent sometimes. This past time, the fried chicken wasn't really fried that well (I think it might have still been pink inside, and one of the chicken wings was pretty soggy...I couldn't even eat that piece. The fried rice was flavored nicely, not too strong, but not too weak either. Their milk teas can get inconsistent too, for QT anyways. My jasmine milk teas, for the most part, are always really good. I was able to eat that fried rice for 2 more meals.
Until September 6th, from 3-6PM, f you show Jamba Juice your student ID, they will give you a 16 oz. drink for $1! Wuuuut?! I wonder if this applies only to the Jamba Juice in Davis. Anyways, I decided to try something new: the Orange C Booster. Its different from what I usually get (Mango-A-Go-Go). It was good, but I don't think I would get it again unless it was $1. Sour and it had a weird aftertaste. QT decided to get his favorite, Orange Dream Machine.
Then today, QT and I went to Costco in Woodland. We wanted to eat somewhere afterwards. It was down to two choices: Red Robin or a sushi place. Ultimately, we decided to get sushi at this restaurant called Jinju Sushi.
We were a little apprehensive at first when we first walked in, just because we were in Woodland and, well, Woodland isn't really known for sushi. We were seated at the bar; I don't think I've ever been seated at the bar before! The person servicing us at the bar immediately greeted us and to tell him our order whenever we were ready. We decided to get the medium sashimi plate, unagi donburi, and the 'Uncle J' roll.
Service was amazing! For us young-looking college students, its really hard to find places that would actually be nice to you (those ageist waiters/waitresses). They were always keen on remembering to refill our water and soda, and the person at the bar even conversed with us!
Anyways, the Uncle J roll came first. It was like a spicy shrimp tempura roll with seared tuna on top. It was okay, not the best, but its pretty good (especially if you eat it all in one bit, otherwise it can get a little plain.)
Next was the unagi donburi. This donburi, in terms of presentation, makes Geta's unagi donburi look like crap. I wish they were more generous with the unagi, but it was already a pretty big serving. The unagi was good, soft and delicious and flavorful.
Last came the sashimi plate, which was SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD!!! Not only that, but it was plated beautifully. It had escolar, albacore, salmon, hamachi, and tuna. I think the escolar tasted the best. However, all of the sashimi was fresh and were a thick cut. Most of the fish just melted in my mouth....soooooo goooooooood!
Service was really good, and the food was good as well. I would probably go back there again!
