This exhibition has been traveling throughout the archdiocese of Los Angeles for a while now. It has finally arrived here at St. Andrew Parish in Old Town Pasadena. The Blessed Carlo Acutis exhibit will be on display until tomorrow. Come read about the miracles which have been recorded throughout history.

It was a lazy Sunday and allure of a drunky brunch was very enticing. I met up with Lisa in Old Town Pasadena as we had made tentative plans early in the week to meet up at some point post holidays. Lisa led the way and we settled on Edwin Mills by Equator. Old Town Pasadena has many small streets or alley ways where you can slip into intimate eateries. I think because Pasadena’s grid goes back to the 1880s when it was a town rather a part of LA’s urban sprawl. Parking is hell and I think Lisa spent 20 plus minutes finding parking. I got us a table and studied the menu. Edwin Mills has bottomless mimosas so o settled on that drinking option. Lisa finally arrived to join me outside with a street adjacent table. The out tables were completely occupied and a buzz with conversations and laughter. Lisa had a Bloody Mary. She ordered the Huevos Rancheros (Huevos rancheros is a breakfast dish consisting of eggs served in the style of the traditional large mid-morning fare on rural Mexican farms) and I couldn’t resist the Braised Short Ribs Chilaquilles (Corn tortillas, Sunny-side Duck Fat Fried Egg, Sour Cream, Red Sauce, Crema Fresca, Radish. Let’s see you get this at the taco truck) Yes, yes, yes! Lisa and I ate with a great deal of joy. We dished, we gossiped and laughed our asses off. Lisa is a technical editor who graduated from USC. We had an educated conversation that didn’t dwell on superstition and was fact based. And such discourse leads to pointing the flaws of the MAGA world of magical thinking and defaming the cult of personality that the GQP suffocating in right now. Our server Efrem was very helpful and attentive to our needs. I had been a very good boy and deserved a treat. I had dropped in earlier to use the facilities passing through Old Town Pasadena on my way to Samy’s Nikon Z9 demo Days. I noticed the grills on the table and I asked if the establishment was Korean barbecue. She said yes and I indicated I’d be back. The place was white glove cleans with natural wood paneling with a white and stainless steal modernist design that I found appealing. I have had Korean barbecue in a while and my appetite was peaked. I started with the deep fried vegetable dumplings and then ordered the Spicy Jowl (marinated pork jowl with spicy house sauce). The pork jowl came with all of these side dishes. The only on I remember is the kimchi and the ginger because that’s easy to remember. The waitress fired up the grill as I was munching on my deep fried dumplings. Then the waitress returned with the pork jowl, a slice of mushroom and an onion. She rams the onion all over on top of the grill before adding the mushroom and pork jowl. The pork sizzled while I dug into my sides. Once the pork was nearing ready she brought some rice paper wraps. By some inexplicable and miraculous means I managed to separate my rice paper wraps with the very cool stainless steal chopsticks. Some days I have better luck with my chopsticks than others and today was wonderfully surprising. I wrapped the jowls in the rice paper wraps and had at it. There was a lot of pork. I dipped the jowls in the sesame oil and tried different combinations of condiments. All to good effect. It was delicious. I was also very full and ready to relax at home.
