Monique and I agreed to meet for brunch at the Wayfarer Rooftop yesterday for Sunday brunch. I was in the middle of editing when we made our plan and she set the reservations which took a layer of responsibility for my engagement of the process when I needed it most. It’s was a toss-up between Ace and Wayfarer and Wayfarer won. We were sat at the west end of the rooftop where it was obviously way more playful a space than the east side. There was 70% more view and 100% more wading pool and yellow rubber ducky. Alex was our server and from what I was told we were having the brunch experience. On the website, it’s formally called Rooftop Executive Chef Brunch menu and was an 8-course meal. I was so ready to be treated and it was way beyond what I could have anti anticipated. (A full discrimination of out meal will be in comment section below) We started under shade and we left soaked in sun. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday and Monique’s company was dearly desired. There were a lot of photos that were taken on the Wayfarer Rooftop today and thought it easier to separate food and us rather the bring the post down to on 10 images. I usually focus on the food but today was a little different and we both took pictures DTLA food adventure. I’m really glad Monique suggest a rooftop. It does the soul good to rise above it all away from the noise of the street. I met up with Pete at San Diego Old Town depot. Pete suggest we go to Old Town Mexican Cafe and I was game. When we arrived it appeared that Old Town Mexican Cafe was closed. It made sense given it was a family business. We decided on the next best thing with Cafe Coyote. Traveling on Thanksgiving day makes for odd choices but I already knew we’d have a drunky brunch. I ordered up the Cranberry Bliss (Tequila, puréed cranberries, elderflower liquor, organic margarita mix, a splash of ginger beer and AA ginger garnish). Then I settled on Chilaquiles with shredded chicken (Corn tortillas simmered in a green or red sauce. Topped with cheese, two eggs and sour cream.) with a drip coffee. Conversation with Pete is always engaging touching on politics and philosophy on life. We had a great time. Pete had plans to be with his family and his part was to make mash potatoes. So I hung at the casa while Pete made great mash potatoes with garlic and thyme. He shared a sample and it was some tasty potatoes! He then dropped me off at La Pensione when I checked in and decompress from my journey. Before Pete I met up again for drinks I had a turkey dinner at Farmers Table in Little Italy. I’ll dwell on the dinner in another post. We were going go to The Princess but it was closed. We wanted to remain local so we returned to the Farmers Table and drank at the bar. It’s was great fun watching the clock run down to close for all the waitstaff who were sharing shots. Pete suggest shots with our beers and I thought that was a marvelous idea. We drank till we called it a night.
