At the age of 22, Oliver’s life was headed in a very different direction than what his parents had hoped for. His girlfriend of two years that he had met while at Yale was pregnant and that wasn’t even the main issue his parents had with the girl. The fact that she didn’t come from a good family is what made them cringe at the thought of them being married. Claire, Oliver’s girlfriend, met an all too early end. She and their unborn child died in a car accident that Oliver is not completely convinced his parents didn’t have a hand in. Oliver spent the next two years morning the death of the only women he’d ever loved while parents worked to find him a more suitable bride.

Annabel was young, only just eighteen, and beautiful, but also incredibly cold with dead eyes and a frown that only left her lips a handful of times. Their marriage was never happy, but they had two children that Oliver loved, even if it was in his own special way. He traveled a lot for work, bouncing from city to city, trying to find the love he once felt in a place that couldn’t be destroyed rather than in a person that could. It wasn’t until Oliver and Annabel’s children got older did Oliver start to look for the company of another woman. His nest was nearly empty and he couldn’t imagine having to face a life with his wife alone.
