You were taught three-letter abbreviations for the states in school.  (For your hand-written letters, of course.)  “Miss.”  “Ind.”  “Cal.”

Furthermore, you remember when, after the new postal abbreviations became regulation,  etiquette columns said NOT to use MI, IN, CA anywhere except on envelopes.

You also remember airmail.   And the difference between person-to-person and station-to-station calls.  And the hours at which long-distance calls were cheaper.
