Photos by @amivitale. Last week, I was honored to be sharing my work on @OlPejeta's feed in honor of my new global ambassadorship with the conservancy. Please follow them if you are not already! Rhinoceroses are the second-largest land mammals, eclipsed only by elephants. Despite their size, they have, for the most part, a gentle temperament. They are mostly solitary animals that prefer to live an independent life. However, they have their own territories and will fight to protect their territories. The size differs somewhat between males and females. A female will require an area of about one and four square miles. Males require less room since they roam in search of a mate. They can reach speeds of about 55 kilometres per hour (or around 35 miles per hour). Because their eyesight is not good, they can make blind charges and will sometimes run straight into a tree! Ol Pejeta is an incredible place to view rhino behavior. They have nearly 150 black rhinos, the last two northern white rhinos and 39 southern white rhinos. Help support Ol Pejeta’s work by donating to their end of year campaign to raise $150,000 for 150 rhinos via the link in my bio. #OlPejeta #OlPejetaConservancy #Africa #AmiVitale #NatGeo #Kenya #KenyanWildlife #Wildlife #WildlifeConservation #conservation (at Ol Pejeta Conservancy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXlnaLAFz9s/?utm_medium=tumblr
