Taco n' Madre

Taco N' Madre is located off of Eastside Dr. and Oltorf in a Valero parking lot. Although apparently they've opened another location in Austin. I love the thought that food trailers are so popular in Austin that they are expanding into miniature franchises! Also... and this is the real killer... Taco n' Madre also *drum roll* DELIVER!! Anyone else elated with the idea of delivery breakfast tacos? Although to be fair, they only deliver within a 1 mile radius of the trailer. That's still pretty convenient for all the Saint Edwards students near by and the neighborhoods and apartment complexes off Oltorf. 

Taco n' Madre serves all sorts of dishes from tacos to 12 in' burritos to full plates of food. Their breakfast tacos are delicious of course. They combine the additional ingredients (whether it be potatoes, cheese, meat) into the egg mixture when cooking. This way you get all the ingredients somewhat stuck together to where you can eat your burrito without worrying that little chunks of potato will fall out the other end. Finally! A burrito with staying power. The tacos come with orange and green salsa and are $2.50 a taco. It's a quaint, friendly, quick, delicious taco truck that was certainly worth my time and money. Check to see if their 2nd location is near you! It'll be worth it when they deliver those warm tacos in the morning!

Regal Ravioli

Pasta made fresh, from scratch, and made well, quickly pushes into a league of its own when compared to store bought pasta. The difference is that this often bland source of carbohydrates becomes a determining source of flavor when made fresh. If you have not had the opportunity to test this claim, I highly recommend a trip to Regal Ravioli, located at 504 West Oltorf St Austin, TX 78704.

The pasta at Regal Ravioli is all made fresh, from scratch, something that is notable in its appearance, flavor, and texture. It should be noted that making fresh pasta is a time-consuming practice, so I think it is safe to say that the food coming from Regal Ravioli has been made with heart. Whether you are looking for carnivorous or vegetarian options, Regal Ravioli has a hospitable menu that rivals every brick and mortar Italian food restaurant I have been to in Austin. I had the Butternut Squash ravioli with Fontina Veloute sauce. The sauce was creamy and rich, the ravioli was packed with fresh veggies, and the ravioli shell was soft, but dense. I couldn’t resist cleaning my plate with the complimentary garlic bread I had received. In addition to the ravioli I had a single meatball that was incredible. Large and cooked through perfectly, the meat balls at Regal Ravioli are worth the trip alone.

Thrift Store Style

There is no shame in shopping it and browsing it at the second hand store! As the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure or something like that. Not to mention you can find some real QUALITY stuff for real CHEAP. We must admit, we hit up the thrift stores in our crazy Austin adventures. You know the wardrobe isn't complete without that one of kind article or better yet when you feel the need to cludder your house with old useless gadgets and fixings just cus it looks cool; the thrift store is where its at! Next best thing to garage sales.

Anyway Austin has a variety of thriftstores around the area, Not Goodwill, i'm talking genuine shops that have the neighborhood donations, owned locally. If you're interested there are some that line the South Congress street, a good one there we found was St. Vincent De Paul ( it has two stories). There are also some up and down Oltorf, like the Family Thrift Center. Tons more, of course!! Recycled clothes and other stuff isn't too out of the norm, I mean keep Austin Weird... right?

If you don't know the ways of the thriftstore shopping...educate yourself, its a must! well not a must but it definitely is a hellagood way to find some primo stuff and you'll love it!! Try it!

I guess this would be more appropriately posted to "connections," as your truck came into contact with mine and hardly anything was "missed," but since that section does not exist on craigslist, it'll have to go here.  It was close to 3am on Friday/Saturday and I was on my way home from picking up my truck, which had been towed a few hours before in one of the most tragic misunderstandings of 2010. I was northbound on the access road, and I knew when I saw you careening down (up?) the Oltorf exit that you were going to just keep drifting to the right and crash into me. I thought about slowing down, but I was pretty pissed off from the $171 in towing fees, and from seeing so many shitty bands at free week, so I just stayed the course. And what do you know, you just plowed right on into me! Luckily, my old S-10 is the epitome of tough and I'll be able to keep driving it, especially considering that you made no effort to stop, and in fact sped up and zoomed away after our encounter. I thought about drowning my sorrows with a Whataburger on the way home, but we all know what that drive-thru line is like at 3am on a weekend.  I might head back downtown tonight to be underwhelmed yet again. Maybe you can catch up with me while you're driving the wrong way up San Jacinto.
