Task 022: Modern Picspam
Ariadne, wife of Dionysus
Remember Ariadne, young Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae . . . She was the darling of the gods and she has her emblem in the sky: all night a ring of stars called Ariadne's Crown [constellation Corona] rolls on its way among the heavenly constellations. (Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 3. 997 ff)
Task 009: Hotel Grand Opening
Amy found a colorful two-piece dress to wear; she opted for simple accessories - black heels and stud earrings - to make the dress the focal point. In an impulsive move, she cut her hair shortly before the event and arrived with a new, chin-length bob.
Task 009 - Hotel Grand Opening
Alex opted for a classic black suit for the grand opening, something that would coordinate with Ellie’s outfit. It’s accessorized with his phone, as he frequently checks for updates on how his new puppy is doing at his parents’.
Task 005
Alex could have sworn the odd pendant had been bigger when he first saw it. It had appeared in his office seemingly out of nowhere, hidden under a student’s sweater on the cot and Alex thought it had been bigger - not quite a full-size thing, but several feet long, at least. Now it was smaller, with a hidden loop on the back and a chain conveniently curled beside it. He knew that he should take it to the lost and found to see if anyone claimed it, but the pendant was so unusual that he felt sure he would remember seeing a student wearing it. So despite the fact that he didn’t believe it could actually be his, he threaded the chain through the loop and slipped it over his head. When it fell into place, cool against his sternum, Alex had a moment of peace - as if something had been missing and now he had it.
The shape of the pendant also tugged at the odd sort of memories that he couldn’t quite bring back. He knew it wasn’t a caduceus, the staff of the Greek god Hermes, which was often used as a medical symbol. He’d studied that when he was in college, and the mistake never failed to amuse him. When he got home, a quick google search led him to a Greek god he’d never heard of, despite a childhood interest in the subject.
Asclepius. God of medicine, son of Apollo.
Alex had long since outgrown his interest in Greek gods but something about Asclepius appealed to him - maybe because of his interest in medicine, maybe because of the pendant he’d found in his office. Maybe because . . . but there was no other reason he could think of.
His phone buzzed, pulling him out of an article and back into the present, where he was due to pick Ellie up for a date in a couple of hours. He bookmarked the article to read later and texted Ellie a picture of the pendant, curious to see her reaction to it.
Past
“Take it,” she says breathless, pressing the spool into his hands as her gaze scans their surroundings for watchful eyes. If anyone were to catch her aiding this enemy of Crete, she didn’t want to consider the consequences. And yet . . . she loves him. She’s never felt this way about anyone before - the racing heart, the trembling fingers, the acute awareness of him. She knows it’s love, because what else can it be? And thus how can she let him go to his doom? The sword he has, given to him by her earlier. It’s much more conspicuous and so she can’t risk handing it to him in plain sight. But the thread - the thread which, she thinks, is even more important to the plan - that she can slide into his grip without anyone noticing. “Good luck. I’ll see you soon.” Should she feel a flicker of guilt for betraying her country, her family this way? Perhaps, but the guilt doesn’t come. All she feels is certainty of his victory and excitement at the thought of the future.
Present
Amy yawns as she stumbles into the bathroom after shooing away her visitor from the night before. It had been a great night, but she didn’t want company now. She had to get ready for work - it was her day to go in early and see about ordering their new stock, so she couldn’t afford to be late. She washes her face and pulls her hair into a messy bun and is about to start her makeup routine she she spots it. A spool of thread, bright red, and completely out of place in her bathroom. “What the fuck . . .” Her stomach clenches into a knot of tension and anxiety as she eyes it the way she eyes a bug in her apartment. It doesn’t belong. And she knows it’s bad news or - or has a bad association. There’s something dancing around the back of her mind: a handsome boy, the noise of a crowd, a stern man and . . . a brother? Half-brother? The weight of guilt - Tears prick her eyes and thoughtlessly, Amy swipes the thread off the counter. She doesn’t know why she retrieves it when she’s done, or slides it into her purse.

Task 26: Character Style
Alex likes to dress comfortably. His style is pretty classic, and he dresses nicely for work - good pants, button-down shirts, sweaters. In the winter, he’ll layer, and in the summer, he’ll find lightweight shirts. It’s rare to see him in a t-shirt, unless he’s working out or going to the beach. He keeps any accessories simple as well, wearing a watch that he received from his parents after graduating from college and his wedding ring on a daily basis. Though he prefers his contacts, Alex wears glasses at home most of the time, and occasionally when he’s going out as well.
